You have two 4K HDMI screens and one USB-C port. It��d be nice to find an easy way to combine them. Now the Plugable USB-C Dual 4K HDMI MST Display Adapter (USBC-MSTH2) has you covered.

Compatible with Windows and Chrome computers with USB-C DP 1.4 support��so most modern laptops��a single USB-C port can be used to extend your display across two 4K screens at 60Hz. Designed around Multi-Stream Transport (MST), the display uses Alt Mode graphics and an MST chip to drive two independent displays natively from the host laptop��no driver installation required. And with HDCP support��something a lot of video adapters don��t have��you can play copy-protected media through streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.

With a form factor smaller than a full docking station, you can easily slip this adapter in your bag for use in between your home, office, or other workspace.

A couple of things to note about this USB C HDMI adapter. If your computer only supports DP 1.2, you can enjoy all the same benefits, but at a resolution of 1080p 60Hz across both displays.

Mac doesn��t support MST��the underlying technology driving the dual HDMI adapter for 2 monitors, so while the dual hdmi adapter is technically compatible with Apple USB-C devices, you can only extend to one 4k monitor, the second external monitor will be mirrored.

There isn't much to say about this except it's well-constructed albeit with a plastic shell and it works as expected. It requires phones/devices that support DP Alt mode or DeX (Samsung) to pass audio/video signals via USB-C port and NOT all phones support this including those that are released fairly recently within the last 2-3 years (i.e. some budget phones don't support this).

This is a simple adapter that can easily extends your existing setup with 1 or 2 additional displays and it's capable of supporting 4K@60Hz with EITHER 1 or 2 monitors and this is significantly better than most other dual HDMI adapters that only support up to 4K@30Hz when 2 monitors are used.

Reasons To Buy

+ Typical Plugable build quality - which is great
+ It is the first dual HDMI dongle/dock (including some docks made by Plugable) that I have tried let me get get dual 4K60 on my laptop's USB-C port (2022 AMD Lenovo Legion 5 w/ NVidia 3050Ti). I got 4K60 on the first monitor and 4K59.94 (close enough to 60) on the second output. With other docks, I either could not get 4K60 on the second, and quite frequently couldn't even get anything higher than 1440p/1080p on the second output. In the advanced display settings, both monitors were getting their input from the laptop's discrete GPU.
+ Reasonably priced

Nitpicks / Hit or Miss

* Would have been nice to get the extra 0.06Hz on my second monitor, but I was just happy to finally have a dual 4K60 out from a single USB-C port.
* There was a little bit of lag in the Windows display settings to see the advanced display settings for either monitor, but there did not appear to have any other performance issues.
* I have my laptop on a stand, so the cable is a little shorter than I'd like.

Reasons Not To Buy

- Even though I had a positive experience with this adapter, video out over USB-C can be a coin toss. I've tried **a lot** of docks/adapters whose specs on paper said they supported 2x4K60. This is the first one I've tried that could do it and be stable at the same time on my laptop. I'm pretty sure that *my laptop is part of the problem*, as other people with different computers were able to get 2x4K60 on some of the other docks/adapters I've tested. How well it works for you will ultimately depend on whether your computer likes this adapter, and you won't know until you try.
- No support for pass-through charging.

Good Value?

For the price, I think this adapter is a good buy, especially because it's from a known brand.

Having said that, for $55 (price at time of review), you can get cheaper USB-C to dual HDMI adapters that claim to support 4K60x2, but I have tested several, and they have been very hit or miss in terms of their actual capabilities.

To be fair, it's quite possible that this Plugable may not work well with your computer, even though it worked well with mine. While I like the USB-C port, I have found that the so-called USB-C/Thunderbolt standards to be a mess, as PC manufacturers, cable manufacturers and peripheral manufacturers, who can pick and choose what capabilities of USB specs they want to implement have made it hard for the average consumer to sort out.

I picked this up for a Chromebook to have multiple monitors. The most I could get out of this device was one extra monitor at a time. Unfortunately I couldn't determine if it was limitations of my hardware or the device itself. I'm guessing it's my Chromebook that won't handle the multiple outputs. Regardless, it didn't quite do what I was hoping that it would do.

Here are a few things that I could tell from my troubleshooting efforts, that might be helpful.

Works:
- Outputs to a projector, TV or monitor
- Outputs properly to a display through an A/V receiver

Doesn't:
- Will NOT work to a monitor that needs an HDMI to DVI adapter
- Will not work from a USB-C on a phone (***NOTE: It's not advertised to do this, but thought I'd try and share my findings. I tried with a Samsung S23 Ultra and couldn't get it to work.)

Tried two different units but neither would support 2560x1440 @ 60Hz simultaneously on two external monitors. The same monitors worked fine on a different adapter. Both units would support the same 2560x1440 resolution at 30 Hz - but that is not what I bought this unit for - I paid for two at 60Hz. At 60 Hz, the monitors would flash off and on. This begs the question... how many positive reviews are actually running two external monitors at 60 Hz??? Perhaps they are running at 30 Hz - which might be fine for some people. Very disappointed and will give up now - will return the second adapter too. My system does have a Thunderbolt port with DP 1.4 capability.
