Do I need to install software in order to use the device?

Yes, DisplayLink software is required for the UD-ULTCDL for full functionality. Manual installation is required for macOS, Windows installation is typically automatic. We recommend installing the latest DisplayLink software for the best performance.
When installing DisplayLink software on my Mac, why is it necessary to grant ��Screen Recording�� permission?

macOS requires "Screen Recording" for the DisplayLink driver to work properly. Approving it enables the driver to send data over USB from your computer to the DisplayLink-powered display. No data, images, or pixels are being stored or recorded.
Does this dock allow for three displays even on base M1, M2, or M3 Macs?

Yes. Enabled by DisplayLink technology, UD-ULTCDL can connect three displays even if the computer supports only one display output on its own. DisplayLink Manager installation required on Mac.
Which USB-C port on the dock can be used to connect my computer?

The USB-C port on the rear of the dock is dedicated for connecting your laptop. The front port is a hub port only, so it doesn��t work to connect a computer to the dock.
Why aren��t all three displays connecting to my dock?

Please confirm your laptop��s USB-C port supports video output (Alt mode), and that you have the DisplayLink driver/software installed.

I use this docking station with my Dell XPS13, two different monitors (one Dell another Asus), bluetooth mouse and keyboard, external HD, an ANT+ dongle for a workout trainer device, for more than 6 months by now.
So far it has been working pretty good, no complaints about it. Sometimes one program wouldn't have the proper aspect ratio but later I've found it was a glitch from windows, not the station. After I've solved the issue, it has never given any trouble and helped me on several tasks. A much cheaper choice from the original Dell comparative and it gets up to the task. Highly recommend!

I used the docking station with an Asus zenbook ux331 laptop with a USB-C connection to the docking station with two Dell monitors using DVI and HDMI outputs. I first downloaded the drivers as suggested by the Plugable user guide then connected the system using USB connections for the mouse and keyboard and using the Ethernet RJ45 for connection to a LAN. The system worked flawlessly using the monitors as extended from the laptop display. This gave me 3 effective displays. I had previously tried a Dell docking station but the display outputs didn't work. Previous to installing the Plugable, I experience flickering on the laptop display when I used a separate monitor plugged into the laptop HDMI output (this has been noted by other reviewers for this laptop. However, when using the Plugable system I haven't experience any flickering on either the monitors or the laptop display. I have been using it a few days, so hopefully I get a long life out of the unit.

Only issue (and it's a minor issue if you're aware of it), I'm using this with an extender which has 2 HDMI outputs, which mirror each other; the Plugable unfortunately considers this as 2 outputs which is confusing, just set the duplicate to mirror the other.

What a waste of a product, I've spent more time unplugging and plugging stuff back in than I have working. My cheap $30 USB C to HDMI adapter works better than this $250 garbage. Today for example I plugged in my HDMI cable from my MSI Crosshair to it and the signal wouldn't output to the other monitors but the moment I plugged the same HDMI directly to each monitor it worked. Sending back for a refund because this thing has wasted so much of my time.

I bought this so I could plug it into my brand new Dell G7 laptop. I wanted to have the ease of having two monitors, a keyboard and mouse and a power supply all connected, so when I brought my laptop to work, I only had to plug in one cable. Unfortunately, my Dell laptop requires 180W of power - this dock can only provide 60W of power. Even more useless is that the Dell can't accept power on it's USB-C port, which is a terrible oversight on Dells part - although not Plugable's fault. Unfortunately, Plugable weren't able to confirm if this dock would work prior to me buying it, which is unfortunate - had I known it didn't work, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Another problem I discovered is that the dock uses Displaylink technology to send signals to your monitors - this is not in any way suitable for gaming or graphical work, as the chip simply doesn't have the power. I experienced massive slowdowns when trying to game using the dock ad had to bypass it and plug my main monitor directly into the laptop, which again kind of defeats the purpose of the dock. It does seem to do what it claims - it just isn't really right for my application and is disappointing considering the price.
