Hooked it up to my Mother's TV and a pair of JVC bookshelf speakers. Getting older and losing your hearing is not fun so little things like this can go a long way. My mother was ecstatic with the sound quality. The system paired nicely with her hearing aids and she said it was perfect sounding to her and she could hear every little detail because of the Lepy amplifier and bookshelf speakers. When she gets her new TV stand, I'll head over and put it together for her. Cheers.

    good sound quality. Survived a summer being used outside in a gazebo proving power for outside speakers.Not exposed to rain, but still impressive that it took the heat and humidity just fine. Great little amp.

    Why I Bought It

    I wanted to use passive speakers with my computer.

    How I Tested It

    I use the amplifier in conjunction with a Fiio D03K Taishan DAC (via toslink optical). I did NOT test the amplifier without the DAC, so you may experience less optimal audio output without one. The DAC made a very noticeable improvement in clarity and soundstage with my previous computer speakers.

    I tested these with two speakers, a pair of Gallo Nucleus satellites + subwoofer and a pair of Teac LS-70A bookshelf speakers.

    The Gallo satellites sounded clear and accurate with the amplifier, but in the end, the limited range of the satellites (no bass) were a bit of a problem for me. My powered subwoofer has High Level inputs and outputs, so I ran the sub to the amp using speaker wire, and the satellites into the subwoofer using speaker wire. If your subwoofer does not have high level inputs and outputs, you may have to figure out a trickier way to get a 2.1 setup with this amplifier.

    With the Teac bookshelf speakers, I found I didn't need a subwoofer, since they had enough bass. These speakers sound great with this amplifier.

    Both sets of speakers, by the way, are 4 Ohms.

    I mounted the amplifier on the keyboard tray of my desk.

    To get the sound to my liking, I use it with the Tone button set to ON with adjustments to the bass and treble settings.

    What I Like

    * Small
    * That price. Amazing for the price.
    * Mountable
    * Clean sound to my non-audiophile ears (using a DAC)
    * Can drive 4 Ohm speakers loudly enough to fill a room using the included power adapter
    * IF you need to, you can replace the included power adapter with a bigger one.
    * Moddable, if that's your thing

    What I Don't Like

    * That UGLY BLUE LED you've probably read about in other reviews - the only saving grace is that the ugly blue light reminds me to turn off the Amp when I'm done using the computer
    * An RCA subwoofer out would have been super nice
    * You will need to put some feltac or rubber feet to avoid scraping the surface it's on if you are not mounting
    * The included power adapter cable is really short. I may end up upgrading the AC adapter just because of this.
    * You can't pull out the innards and flip it to bottom mount it with the text staying right side up. There's a slot inside the chassis that basically forces the board to go in one way only, i.e. top mount.
    * Cosmetically speaking, it's rather ugly. If you want something prettier, you'll have to spend more money on something like a Topping amplifier.
    * Super light. It will flop or slide around if you don't find a decent way of securing to a surface.

    There is indeed measurable & audible differences between these two look-alike Stereo Class-T digital Audio Amplifiers. Externally, apart from the word Lepy replacing Lepai and a + sign after the "A" on the model number in the latter unit, the units appear identical. The external power supplies are different both in appearance & DC output specifications. The flat transformer unit supplied with the Lepai LP-2020A+ is rated at 12 volts 3 amps DC, whereas the upright power unit supplied with the Lepy LP-2020A is rated at 13.5 volts 3 amps DC. For a simple test to assess audible hum & noise, the units were hooked-up to a pair of full-range Pyle speakers. The Lepai LP-2020A+ with the volume control set at maximum gain had a significantly higher background hum & noise level than the Lepy LP-2020A. Turning back the volume control to the 1 o'clock position for the Lepai unit and the 3 o'clock position for the Lepy unit resulted in a very acceptable background hum & noise levels. Switching around the power supply units actually increased the hum & noise level of the Lepai LP-2020A+ unit ... so don't do this. Finally, the units were compared using the following audio setup ... A pair of 8 ohm Polkaudio T600 speakers hooked-up in parallel with a pair of 8 ohm Janszen Model 130 speakers for a 4 ohm combined speaker impedance and connected to the either the Lepy or Lepai amplifier controlled by a Marantz Model 3600 Stereo Console. The sound reproduction at low & moderate output levels was surprisingly very good to excellent for both units with the Lepy LP-2020A being a bit cleaner reproducing the low & high-end frequencies especially at higher volume levels. This is indicative of both power supply & design improvements for the new Lepy model. In conclusion, the Lepy LP-2020A is a very good stereo amplifier performer and buy in the 20 watts RMS power output range.

    Small, clear sound, works exactly as advertised. (Class-T is basically a marketing thing - it is a particular chip used - Tripath, they compete with and are otherwise a class-D amp which is what is mentioned in the manual that comes with it)

    It does clip at high volumes and will also cut sound until you turn the volume down to prevent overload/damage to the speakers, but I had to turn it up louder than was comfortable to listen to in a standard room. the 20 watts per channel with a reasonable speaker was more than loud enough for typical listening. (likely not enough for large rooms, outdoors or for parties)
    I've used it with the 3.5mm (headphone jack to headphone jack cable to a phone) and the RCA audio input - both were good.
    I have it currently setup with an Airport Express in my garage - could also be setup with Chromecast Audio or similar device. to allow easy/cheap network audio streaming. There are also some bluetooth to audio adapters I've seen that could also be used with it for someone not wanting/doing a network setup.

    The treble/bass controls and a button to allow bypass on them is nice - can help compensate a little for lower quality speakers.
