  I have a backyard fire ring and I was in need of a new poker. the stick I've been using seems to keep getting shorter for some reason! This is a solid set, made from heavy gauge steel. The poker comes in two pieces but screws together firmly to form a solid connection. The hook and point is welded to the end of the rod, not the most finely finished of joints, but it is solid and for a device used to root around in fire and charcoal, I'm more concerned with function than form. The tongs are also fairly basic, but they work like a charm and allow a good grip on pieces of wood. I do find I have to grip the logs with the curved part of the jaws; if I try and use the tips the wood has a tendency to rotate, but that's to be expected. I'm the type person who always sees a stick or two in the fire that could be in a better spot, and this set of tools allows me to manage (some might say "play with", but that's THEIR opinion! LOL) my campfires a lot better! I'll update my review as I get more use out of this set, this season.
