After years of searching for a Canadian guide to edible/medicinal forest/field trees and plants, I've finally found my definitive compendium: Edible and Medicinal Plants of Canada This book is encyclopedic, with herbal/medicinal lore, great photos, detailed uses of plants and their parts, including necessary disclaimers and warnings in cases where using certain herbs is NOT recommended, for various, serious reasons, when building your natural apothecary. It is well-organized, for ease in finding and identifying plants, is appropriate for teens through seniors. The book, while a paperback, is sturdy and substantial and must be included in a prepper's bugout bag. Regardless where you may live in Canada (and parts of the US), there is much information and advice to be gleaned from the pages, such that the price can be deemed "very reasonable", compared to other books in this category. I've only had the book for a week, and have already started taking it out with me on my walks with my dogs on local central Ontario forest, streams and field trails. I've been battling Lyme Tick Disease for over 13 years, and the indigenous medicine men/women in my region taught me that the medicine I need to extend my life and ease my symptoms is as close as my backyard, and they were correct! A book of this kind ought to be in EVERY elementary and post-secondary school library, and its contents ought to be taught to our children from an early age. Just my opinion! As such, it is a good and most useful gift for pre-teens through adults. A MUST-HAVE book! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
