We mounted them on top of our old mounts that were 6 inches that gave them a double stand. The light that they give is not extremely bright but just nice for a deck or balcony. You have to make sure that the on button has been pushed after installing them which is easily done by turning the caps to take them off. They look & work great!

I'm very happy with these solar lamps. They don't produce a significant amount of light (no solar lamps do), but they are a nice decorative addition and add an element of class to your deck railing or fence. Assembly is very simple and the added bracket allows for installation almost anywhere. The battery life is good, allowing each light to stay on all night. I ran a test, fully charged during the day in the sun, then kept the light detector covered from 8pm to 8am, and the light was still shining brightly after 12 hours, pretty impressive! I love that the single AA rechargeable battery is easily replaced when it wears out. The lamps can be easily switched off if you don't want them on during any given night. The construction seems durable and I am optimistic they will last for a long time. Do be aware that these are not giant, maybe a couple inches more across than the 4" post they can mount on. They are big enough to be eye catching even during the day. At this price, they are an incredible value and a super upgrade. Definitely recommend!

Were just as described, nice black finish and shiny glass. For a moment I thought I had made a mistake - the base was the same 4x4 size as the post so how would it stay on? Then rediscovered that it had a metal piece that you nail to the top of the post. The metal curves up so you can screw the lamp base into it thus holding the base. Haven't installed yet and there isn't enough sun (in Oregon this time of year) to check out if the solar part works. Expect it to work when days get longer.
