I actually made the purchase last year, much time has passed, since then I have used this magnifier often. It is not the only magnifier I own either, but I really like this one and has become the only one I go to. What originally sold me was the light, and the fact it is powered by regular battery, not unreliable recharging. I guess what I wanted to say is this is a great product for the money.

Well, I do not need a magnifier for things other than typically reading fine print and sometimes working with electronics. The magnification strength is high, going straight to details, focuses quickly on specific words or sentences; however, "30x" is not the right kind to read a book (for example) — for that a lower level would help.

The LED lights are not glaring or overbright, they are perfect for close up viewing. It has a plastic casing that seems very durable... I have not dropped it yet though I do believe it has a good chance of not suffering any damage. Furthermore, I am still using the original two AA Duracell batteries I installed, and they should last a year or longer easily (eight months already).

Purchased this magnifier for my mother-in-law to be able to see small text characters and to see markings on appliance control knobs, etc. Overall, it is pretty good and will do the job. But: The unit is quite heavy. An in-focus view is obtained at about 4 inches from the page. At this distance, it seems to provide about 3x magnification. It has a small field of view that is in focus (a few words on a page), and seems most clear when viewed with one eye. The lights definitely aid in the view, but the illumination is not uniform and at the focus distance, the centre of the view is less illuminated than the edges. Despite these drawbacks, I am glad I got it for her.
