This is a staggering sharpener. After spending half an hour trying to sharp my woodless PROGRESSO pencils and didn’t get much luck with it ( 2 middle pencils) with regular sharpener, I started to look for a good one. All the reviews stating about its excellence - absolutely truth. It took me 10-15 sec for each pencil. I am still amazed! There is question if it can be used without screwing to the surface - yes, definitely you can! I did it for 26 pencils holding in hands) ~couldn’t wait to get my pencils ready 😊 Extremely fast delivery <48 hours was a great benefit. PS: it’s a metal and looks very sturdy.

    Works great, but it's very difficult to mount. They provide you with three tiny screws only ¾" long, and it's almost impossible to get the correct angle on the third. That screw will strip out immediately. You can easily scratch the finish on the pencil sharpener doing this, so I recommend you get your own screws. The mounting hole will accept a #6 pan head screw, but you can also fit #7 screws if you thread them through. A long screwdriver helps a lot.

    This is another example of a company passing off cheap Chinese garbage as a quality product based on their name. I knew I shouldn't buy it, but I hoped X-Acto had some integrity and quality control, but they don't. It's made of the absolute thinnest sheet metal, the screws that are included are like tissue paper. There are three mounting holes, with one being directly below the handle making impossible to mount the sharpener without stripping that screw. I bought this because I didn't want to pay $35 for a used Giant. I was wrong and regret trying to save a couple of dollars. I'm writing this so you don't have to waste your money like I did.

    I remember that back in the 1970's how strong, durable and easy to sharpen to a long, tapered point this X-Acto sharpener was. Now with grandkids going to school and always needing to sharpen, I decided to invest the money in a "quality" sharpener. How times have changed! The metal is flimsy and easily bendable. I am guessing that if I need to change the pencil hole diameter often, it will not last very long. Trying to secure the base, the screwhead stripped on one. Another screw broke off at the head. I will need to buy new screws and will have a difficult time getting the stripped and broken screw out. Be sure to pre-drill holes for less aggravation, although you will still have problems. I am disappointed in my purchase.
