The simplytear paper towel holder has a spring activated arm to hold the roll securely and allows for a one handed tear. No matter what brand or size paper towel roll you use, the arm automatically adjusts to the width of the roll. The Stainless steel arm keeps the paper towel edge accessible at all times so you do not have to search for the edge. The simplytear paper towel holder is designed with internal resistance to prevent the paper towel roll from unraveling. Loading the paper towel holder is easy. The arm pivots away from the center pole and locks open, allowing you to slip the paper towel roll over the center pole without a fuss. A weighted Stainless steel base and non-slip ring keep the paper towel holder in place. I bought this holder 4 years ago and it’s still works (and looks) like new, and is one of my favourite things in kitchen, so I thought I would write a review on it.

I originally was quite skeptical about this given the price as I had one of those cheap wire paper towel holders before which “did the job” - but this blew that out of the water - it’s a whole new experience that makes life easier! The tension arm (which compresses inwards to adjust for the remaining amount of roll) puts the perfect amount of pressure on the roll to keep it in place but also allows you to quickly and easily tear off as many sheets as you’d like with one hand. As I usually need paper towels to clean an unexpected mess or while in the middle of cooking, this is key! It is also extremely stable - even pulling paper towels with a bit of force, the holder won’t lean or tip over. There is also flexible wire bands at the top and bottom of the holder that keep the paper towel in place so it’s not wobbly when you are pulling from it and also prevents too much paper towel from being dispensed with a pull (no “runaway rolls”).

Looking back at my old wire paper towel holder, I realized how much hassle using that was over time given how often I used paper towels. I’ll never go back! This is a must-have for the kitchen and I guarantee it will win you over the first day of using it!

This is an amazing paper towel holder (huh, never thought that would be uttered by me, ever...)! I didn't know I needed this style until I purchased it! When you put the roll on it and place the handle against the roll it lets you tear one off WITH JUST ONe HAND swipe! It actually stays in place! I live in an apartment so I can't really mount one without damaging the cabinets, so this was a perfect solution. The base is heavy, so it stays put, the bar is just tense enough, so it holds the paper towels but does impede them from being pulled off, and it looks good, too. Highly recommend, stay away from the $10 type!

The clamp will break

The tension of the clamp is created by a spring in the base of the unit. The spring is anchored by a flimsy piece of plastic that WILL break, it's a question of when, not if. Once the clamp is limply hanging loose, it becomes vestigial, it serves no purpose. You can remove the clamp so that this is still functional as a weighted base... by hacksawing it off (unlike the spring, the clamp itself is quite firmly fused into the base with a metal rod, and there's no ripping it out).

The clamp was the whole reason I bought this. My cat is a little gremlin who will unspools paper towel like he's running on a treadmill.

The OXO Good Grips SimplyTear Paper Towel Holder is absolutely amazing. The product works perfectly. One, it is looks good in any setting. Two, you can easily put on and remove the paper towel roll. Three, It is weighted just right so the holder will never fall over. Four, it does not take up a lot of counter space. Finally, tearing off sheets of paper towel is easy. I am not sure why a few people say that you have pull the paper a certain way to tear off sheets, but this is absolutely not true.
