Rock Tumbling Instructions

This four-stage silicon carbide grit for rock tumbling systems is the ideal way to give rough rocks a smooth, polished look. The first rock polishing stage smooths rough edges and provides initial shaping. The second stage smooths the rock surfaces even more. The third stage provides a strong pre-polish, followed by the fourth stage which completes the grit polishing process.

The 10 mL scoop in the grit refill kit ensures accurate grit measurements for every stage, allowing you maximize your grit usage for up to 9 kg of rocks!

My niece is getting into rock tumbling, and she's planning to polish up all those cool beach stones she's collected over the years. Sounds like a fun project! This National Geographic grit kit seems like a solid starter set, giving you a good amount of all the necessary grit stages to take those rough finds to a shiny finish. The fact that you can reuse the grit if you're careful when pouring is a nice little bonus.

For anyone else thinking of getting into this, definitely heed the warning about potential mess – that polishing grit is super fine! And if you've got younger kids joining in, keeping an adult around is a smart move. Turning those beach treasures into polished gems is a cool way to relive vacation memories, and this kit looks like it has everything you need to get started. Can't wait to see how those stones turn out!

I have tumbled rocks on and off for the last 45 years or so.

The grit here is good quality.
Make sure you have a place to rinse your tumbling chamber and rocks.
Gravel or dig a small hole to fill in afterwards are good places.
NOTE: Do NOT Ever rinse this into your residential drains as it hardens like concrete anywhere it has a chance to dry.

You should sort your rocks into those of similar hardness or the softer ones will be ground to sand and dust by the harder ones. Please read you device's instructions.

This is the typical 4 STAGE polishing system.
First stage Coarse Grind for shaping the stones.
Second stage smooths the stones.
Third stage is the Pre-Polish which prepares for final polish.
Fourth stage is the "final" polish stage in the tumbler.

Your rocks will look good now but if you have a polishing wheel you can buff an even smoother shinier "wet look" to the stones.

You should be able to use this with any similar style rock tumbler to the National Geographic one.

Great value for this amount of tumbler grit.

Overall it's a decent price for ALOT of 4 stage tumbler grit, one of the included scoops is good for about 1/2lb of rock so there's easily over 100 tumbler runs of grit included.

Do not pour the grit or finished tumbled solution down the drain or into waterways, it can be disposed of outside in a small hole as it is all natural.

You can use this with any tumbler that is designed for a four stage grit roller.
Stage 1 shapes the stones.
Stage 2 smooths the stones
Stage 3 refines the stones
Stage 4 is the finish polish. After this stage you can hand polish or wheel buff the stones for further refinement.

A great value but it's alot of grit for easily 100 or more tumbling sessions. Make sure you need this much before purchase, but otherwise highly recommended.

It took a while to be able to use these as I was waiting for the rock tumbler to arrive. If you have never done rock tumbling, typically this is done in 4 stages and each stage takes about a week. So, this is not a do it today and it is done today - this takes time but it very interesting. But assuming you already have a tumbler and know what you are doing, this is great quality grit and you get plenty of media in these 4 stages, enough for at least 10-15 tumble sessions depending on the size of your tumbler.

This Blue Marble National Geographic Rock Tumbler Grit & Polish Refill Kit has a lot of grit.

There are enough supplies in this kit to polish over 20 lbs of rocks with four progressive grits.

The grit is good stuff, probably the same as what came with your tumbler, silicon carbide.

With this, you can polish not just rocks, but also glass, gems, or other specimens.

This is a nice refill kit with quality grit from a reputable source.
The quantity also makes it a good value.

This is a great set. It gives you quite a a bit of tick grit to use. I’m new to this so I don’t know how long it will last. You get the step one to 4 which gives you heavy to a polishing grit for your rocks.

I did a small batch and it worked really well. After all stages the ricks came out so smooth and polished I was amazed at the colors and how beautiful the rocks were.

So happy with this product as I make jewellery and now I have so many raw stones to make stuff with. This is way cheaper than buying stones just takes more work which is A ok.

Having 4 tubs of stone polishing grit is very handy for doing lots of rock tumbling.

The grit in this kit claims to be able to polish up to 9kg of rocks, I think this is likely correct given the amount you would add to each cycle. And 9kg of small stones is a lot of rocks, so these will last you a long time.

The grit is good quality, similar in size to fine sand, with a shiny black color. In addition to rock tumbling grit, it can very easily be used for craft projects. I intend to use some as a basing material for some miniatures, it would make a nice volcanic surface. You could apply this to many different crafting projects too.

I think this is an excellent value bulk grit kit that will keep your rock tumbler tumbling, and your creative side growing!

This kit is reasonable value when you consider the free Prime shipping and fast delivery times. These grits are a good set for general purpose rock polishing. If you want to get the highest gloss finish on your stones, you will need to purchase a separate polishing compound like some aluminium or cerium oxide. It would be good if this kit could also include some filler media such as plastic pellets - which are helpful to cushion more fragile stones, help distributing the abrasive to all stones, and allow you to optimally fill your tumbler (recommend buying some of this separately).
