It works good and even it appears a modernized looking.
It is fully functioning since I've modified a beer keg chiller in my restaurant by myself a week ago. Due to its unavailability of the original thermostat, I just removed it and then put this external device. Now my beer keg chiller became like a modernized machine with its digital temperature gauge.

    Love this thing !!
My son bought a used red bull mini fridge - the guy that had it before had blown the control board - so I needed a temp controller with sensor and something to trigger the compressor … and this does the trick perfectly at a really cheap price !!

I disassembled the outlet dongle and stripped the wires - redid all necessary connections - this thing rocks. It’s small enough that I was able to fit it back into the original connection box. Set temp at 3.5C with a cooling diff of 1.1C and a compressor delay of 7min.

Do note that if you set a compressor timeout value - upon plugging in the unit - it’ll count down the default value BEFORE triggering the compressor. That threw me off as I wasn’t getting any voltage until I figured it out.

Don’t think we could’ve repaired the board and in any case it would’ve been extremely expensive assuming we could’ve found the necessary components …

My only complaint is that it is impossible to read the display in daylight. If I want to make any changes to my greenhouse setup I have to do it after dark.
    Otherwise it works great

I've been on the hunt for a simple IFTTT controllable 10A outlet with a built-in temperature sensor, that is able to send threshold alarms and enable / disable the outlet.

I have not found a solution for anywhere near the price of this unit.

Simple and easy to use, take a look on YouTube for a video example: it will take you 2-3 minutes to set this up to do whatever it is you need.

In my case, I built a highly insulated shed that needs a 500W heater turned on 1-4 times per day (based on the outdoor temperature / overall heatloss!) for 1 hour to keep the contents above 8°C. This little unit works perfectly!

The unit did need temperature calibration out of the box, it was reading exactly 1.0°C high, but the unit allows easy compensation to read accurately. The thermocouple does have quite a bit of thermal mass bonded to it, in my use case that's fine: I want the mass of the sensor to lag the actual air temperature by a few seconds / minutes to help average out the indoor space temp.

Overall 10/10: perfect little heating controller for light loads; I would not personally run a heating load all the way up to 10A on this unit, it just doesn't have the mass to support such a claim. I'm sure it can _technically_ do 10A for short periods, but to prevent any risks or issues, I'd absolutely keep the load under 6-7A resistive loads max. If you're trying to run a (not remotely rated for!) 120VAC 1.5kW heater on this thing: you're going to melt it for sure.

Update 2: 2.5 yrs and still going strong. I see that it is a better deal, now, too!
Update: 8 mo & going strong! I now have an emotional attachment to this product as it allowed me to keep my elderly, 19 yr old cat safely comfortable at home when she reached the end of her days & she could no longer maintain her body temperature without help. I was able to set this up for her & still get some sleep, & was able leave the house as needed with everything running, without the concern that unregulated devices would cause. Without it, I would have been strongly compelled to bring my cat in to put her down, & given how much she hates the vet that is the last that I would have wanted for her final hours. Instead, she was bedded down in a box so she felt safe, and this Inkbird kept her temperature in the best range. That allowed us to focus on other things, like her favorite sounds and scents, so we could surround her with all that extra goodness and love. I never expected to use the device this way, and now I'm forever grateful for it. She is missed terribly; the memories of how we were able to tend her and give her the most comfortable and peaceful ending are now our comfort in that grief. Thank you, Inkbird Tech. That cat grew up with my children, saw me through recovery from 3 major surgeries and was such a wonderful being and match for us in more ways that I can relate, here. She deserved this, you made it possible, and I hope that you read these reviews from time to time so that you see this, too. Thank you. Thank you.
    --------------------
Initial unedited review: This product has been in use for 4 months, to monitor and control the temperature for petri dishes, seed starting, and plant growth. It would be useful for those doing hydroponics, aquaponics, raising fungi, using a greenhouse, or heating and cooling a space for humans and/or pets. I've been very pleased with all applications that I have tried. The set-up for this product is amazingly easy. It will display in F or C, whichever you set. The desired temperature as well as the acceptable range are programmed as you like, so this is completely customized. The product has been reliably turning on and off the heating and cooling as needed, and has not allowed the temperature to get out of the set range that I programmed, ever. This is monitored with a different device, and it has been accurate. It has taken a while for it to gain my trust, as I am cautious with anything of this nature. First I turned over the controls while sleeping. Now I use this all the time, even if I leave the house. I do not allow a simple timer to do that with a heating device; since this one ensures a set range, that is safer. I also use a heater that also has it's own automatic shut-off. On it's own, my heater would go higher than the range that I required, though it would not continue up into an unsafe range (it could kill some plants, and dry things out). It is important to layer these safety features and use trustworthy appliances.

The display on this device is simple and thoughtful. The bright LED display is large; I love the convenience of the display, as I can read it across the room. It is bright enough to be clearly visible in strong light or in darkness, and every light level in between. Sweet! (I wear corrective lenses, these put my vision into the normal range). It displays both the desired temperature that you set, and the temperature that is being read. It has been showing two digits and one decimal, as well as either the C or F units. The range on the label indicates -58 to 210 F / -50 to 99.9 C. I have not had the occasion to measure triple digit or negative temperatures so I cannot tell you how the display would behave in those conditions.

This device has a devoted cord with a generous length (I'd estimate 5 feet, have not measured this). A second, short cord provides two clearly labeled, 3-prong outlets that allow you to plug in one heating device and one cooling device. It will function with devices that have only 2-prongs, and it will function whether you have attached devices, or not. Of course, without any devices it cannot alter the temperature, and so it would simply function as a thermometer. If you have set a temperature range under those conditions, you would hear it click to attempt to turn on a device, and it would continue to try to do so. I do not know if that would affect the life of the device, and so I recommend that if you decide to use it in this way that you set a large enough temperature range that it is not clicking. A person might decide to do that for the benefit of this display, that has better visibility than any thermometer that I have ever seen. The thermostat probe/sensor is on a slender cord that is several feet long (I haven't measured it- looks like 4 or 5 feet), and allows you to monitor temperature inside a closed container, while keeping the device outside of that container. It could monitor the temperature outside by running the sensor outside of a window or door (assuming that your weather-stripping will allow you to do this without damaging the cord).

The display housing is molded, heavy-duty plastic, and can be hung up on a nail. The hole that allows you to do this is visible in the picture. It is thinner plastic, and extends along the back edge, so your nail does not need to be terribly long. The plastic with that hole does not swivel, and over time plastic can become brittle. If you want to be able to turn this while it is hung up, then you'll need to hang it onto something that will give you that option without undo pressure that could crack the plastic. The plug that is used to attach the heating and cooling devices also accommodates being hung up onto a nail.

The buttons used to set the device are sealed under the label, so moisture and particulates cannot get in there. The entire housing is well protected that way (if you are considering outdoor use, you'd best look into whether that is recommended. I use this inside). The plastic is quite smooth. When you push a button there is an audible click for feedback that you have done so. Buttons need to be held down for a few seconds. Because of that, it is unlikely that any accidental pressing would initiate any program changes.

Accessibility: The buttons are widely spaced; those with large fingers will have no problem. You do need to be able to hold down the buttons for a few seconds. It doesn't take much strength to do that; it does take a degree of steadiness. It is easy to operate this with one hand, by cradling it in the fingers and using the thumb on that same hand for the controls. If that isn't workable, yet you could hold it and use the opposite elbow, that definitely works. (Yes, I tried it!). It wouldn't be entirely impossible to set this up without being able to hold it, and if that is something that you need to do then you would need to consider how you will secure this device into position while you are doing so. The molded hole for hanging this up would not hold up to that sort of treatment, and all of the cords are dedicated (not removable) so those need to be accommodated in the arrangement. If this can be set up and you do not need to change it for your own purposes, then it can be set and just left. It has not timed out, required a re-set or anything like that. Those with low vision may find that this display is quite workable for them. The large size, great contrast and brightness are all in favor of that. There may be those who are able to take the readings just fine, though require help to set this up, as reading the directions and the labels on the outlets for the appliances could be difficult or unworkable with limited vision. Once set up, this can be left alone unless you are going to require changes. If visual issues are a concern, then be sure to check the current return policy, just in case, and know that if you have some vision then there is a good chance of this working out.

More technical stuff: Input and output are labeled the same: 100 - 265 VAC, 50 Hz - 60 Hz. Current: 10A max. CE, FC, ROHS.

I paid full retail price for this product, and have no interest, relationship, blog, or profit in the sale of this item. I'm a happy customer, period. I hope that this review is helpful to you as you're making your decisions. Enjoy your shopping!

I have been looking for something like this for years. I had no idea it existed until I ran across it in a lightning deal.

Anyways, coffee tables and couches obscure the 2 heating vents in my living room. I have fans in front of them to "boost" the air flow from under the coffee tables because all I am doing is heating up the coffee tables when the heat runs without them. The problem has been that I have to leave the fans running 24/7 so that I can get the heat from under the tables. The flip side of this is that I also get some undesired cooler air when the heat is not running because the fans never shut off and I have an annoying breeze when the heat isn't running.

Enter the Inkbird thingy here. I plugged the fans up to a splitter and then into this gizmo and set the cooler temp to 85 degrees. Now the fans only run when the furnace runs!!!! I have considered other way more expensive solutions to this problem before trying this but this is by far the cheapest way to fix my problem AND I have discovered that my heat is actually running less since with this thing and I don't have to deal with the continuous annoying breeze from the fans when the heat is off!!! I also think that the Inkbird will actually pay for itself in a couple of months since my furnace is running about 30% less!!!

**REVISED REVIEW A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER**

I have moved on to a new house. The master bedroom is the farthest room from the furnace. It doesn't seem to get as warm as the rest of the house even after playing with closing vents in other rooms. I pulled out the inkbird from the old house and set it up with an electric fireplace heater blower I rigged up in a box that I put over a heating vent and my problems are solved again. As soon as the heat in the furnace duct hits 90 degrees the inkbird turns on the fan and it sucks the heat thru the vent and out into the room. I am able to increase the temperature in the room by about 3 to 5 degrees by varying the temperature on the inkbird. The lower I set the temperature on the inkbird, the longer the run time I get. This little setup has changed the airflow coming out of the register from a trickle to the equivalent of having a powerful plug in heater in the room.

The best part is that the inkbird along with the electric fireplace fan only pull about 33 watts of electricity when running as compared to about 1200 watts from a heater. I use about 1.9 kwh of electricity a week with this setup as measured thru a smart plug. This means that I use less than 25 cents a week or $1/month to boost the heat to my master bedroom using the inkbird and the fan. The Dyson hot/cool heater that I had rigged up thru a kill o watt measuring device used roughly 75 cents of electricity in 1 day to heat the same space and the Dyson hot/cool heater is one of the most energy efficient heaters on the market. Now if you figure the daily rate of 75 cents and multiply that over 30.4 days per month on average you get $22.80/month to run the heater. The inkbird and fan cost $1/month to get the same result.

If it would stay cold all year, it would cost $12/year to run the inkbird/fan combo. It would cost $274 to run the heater. This is a savings of $262 per year.It doesn't so YMMV.

    BUT...

I can also use this setup during the summertime to boost the a/c flow coming out of the vents. :)

I am very pleased with this device. Purchased to convert a mini (3ft tall) refrigerator into a wine cooler. Set for 54 degree F with 1 degree cooling differential (on at 55F, off at 54F). Not using the heating option. In practice, the probe indicates the temperature overshoots after turning off at 54F, dropping to around 52F. This is due to the nature of the refrigerator’s thermal mass/lag and not a controller issue. This over-shoot is air temperature only and typical of most refrigerators. Separate measurement shows a steady 53F of liquid (wine) near bottom of fridge – perfect.
I recommend the probe be in air, not tight to wall or any container. I also recommend setting the compressor delay to at least 1 minute (the minimum). Most of the time this is irrelevant (typical cycle is on about 8 minutes, off for 90 minutes or so). But if there is a momentary power interruption while the compressor is active, the delay will activate and help protect the compressor.
