Included non-slip rubber base-sheet to stabilize ruler placement.
Replacement Blade: BMC-45P.
Tips for a clean cut: Do not force the cut with one stroke. You will get a cleaner cut if you carefully score the mat and cut over it a few times until it cuts through.
Tips for a clean cut: Slightly over cut the 4 corners of the mat for a nice sharp cutout.
Tips for a clean cut: Do not stick the blade out too far. Position the blade point about 0.3mm out of the matboard.

Nt professional mat cutter is designed for cutting 45 degree angle Bevel straight edge on mat boards. Perfect for customizing your mat board and making decorative frames. To make architectural models, use this 45 degree cutter to cut mat boards into 45 degree bevel edges and join the edges together for a neat corner. Blade depth can be adjusted depending on the thickness of the material to be cut. This convenient and economical blade has four cutting edges so when it's time to change your blade, simply turn the blade to an unused side. Non-slip rubber base is included to assist in keeping straight edge in place when cutting. Easy-to-grip handle fits hand comfortably for stability and control. Blade retracts automatically when not in use. High quality blade is made from chromium and tungsten added carbon tool steel for higher abrasion resistance and produced through multiple stages of precise process to obtain the ultimate sharpness and optimum edge-retention. Good to make decorative frames for pictures and photos, to make architectural models, and to frame artwork, etc. Made in Japan.

I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to doing any bevelling of cardboard mats. I had to do that on a medium size 30" x 20" mat and had a friend hold down a metal guide so that I could cut the mat using the mat cutter. Had no issue doing that.

I placed mat on a couple flat pieces of cardboard (so that I don't score the tabletop) and used a 4' aluminum leveller as a guide I use for framing (carpentry type framing!) work. As long as the mat and the guide can be held down, the blade on the mat cutter slices through the mat without any issues.

The cutter works well but the directions are a bit unclear. To cut on the back side of the mat, where your pencil cut lines are, and to get the 45�� cut on the front side, you must keep the cutter on the inside of your line. If you cut on the outside of the lines, the angle will be wrong. This is not clear in the instructions.

The spring loaded blade makes it impossible to have any precision when applying pressure because it bobs up and down, so you have no idea how deep you are cutting as you do the multiple passes, the result is torn edges, see photo. You don't have any control like you do with an exacto blade, there is no precision with this tool the way it is made: it is impossible to hold the awkwardly large tool to start and stop at the same place - plus, you can't know where to start and stop to get a clean corner, you end up under or overcutting, you just have to guess! Furthermore, the instructions are unclear and not intuitive (FYI: you must cut on the outside of the lines from the rear side to get the correct bevel direction). Don't waste your time and money. I want to buy another model, but all have similar reviews, so I can see there are none that work well. Oh yeah, it DOES NOT COME WITH A REPLACEMENT BLADE, the listing made it sound like it was included, which was why I bought it.

Used this to cut some custom mat board for a couple of frames that I made. It is very good for a mat cutter that is not on a track. The result was not perfect, but certainly acceptable. The blade is sharp and cuts about 90% cleanly. I experienced some "unstraight" points in my cut, but that could very well be a lack of skill. If you are considering this, I assume you are a hobbyist or only expect to use it occasionally. To this extent, it is a great buy. If you are considering this for business or professional use, maybe not. The quality of the tool itself is excellent.

Overall happy with the desired out come in use of this product. I wanted to do a mat board outline for framing the art work.

Do not follow the How-To instructions on the back cover of the product, it will produce a beveled cut opposite to the desired outcome e.g. per instructions you have to mark your cut lines on the back of the mat board and make the cuts on the back, but then the bevel cut will be on the back side of the desired finished front.

So to do the bevel cuts right you have to mark the cut lines in the front i.e. on the desired finish front side and obviously you don't want to dirty the front hence you have to ensure that your line markings are lightly done and cover the front side of matt with clean butter paper or some clean paper on which you will slide the NT cutter. Don't worry too much about the lines, since the cuts are beveled, the line goes on the side of the mat board which is discarded. Your finished mat board won't have the lines.

The end finish was a very clean 10.5" long cut, the blade is good. I went through the 1/16th inch thick mat board in one slide pausing half-way readjusting my grip and continuing to the end, multiple slides back and forth was a bad idea as it was causing shreds of cuts if your motion went slightly off your line.

It required a steady firm hand and adequate pressure to do the cuts right. The red plastic base edge which slides against your ruler could be made better, it had minor imperfections.
