- Reviewed in Canada on May 27, 2025Verified PurchaseI only use fine grind, but there are a lot more options. If you don't like having a little mess each time you make your coffee, I wouldn't recommend, but other than that, it's great. I bought it because someone recommended it to me, and it did not disappoint.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 19, 2025Verified PurchaseI bought the basic grinder because it's cheaper and you pay much more for a timed grind. I did not bother with the grind leveling gizmo. Some people weigh the coffee and measure the output. I simply fill the portafilter with coffee, then shacke it left to right to level the grind, then hit the portafilter on the counter to settle the grind and, finally tamp it.
Makes great espresso. I give it 4 star because the previous fancier model broke. But it's still a great grinder.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 25, 2023Verified PurchaseUpdate - it died under 2 years but worked well throughout.
I LOVE this grinder and I hesitated and read tons of reviews before I bought it - I really over researched espresso grinders in general. The coffee I usually drink with my Roma is the illy pre-ground espresso. I hate Lavazza and always have and that grind is slightly too coarse for this machine. Drinking only one brand of coffee gets a little boring and the pre-ground is really only fresh for the first week for aroma etc. Also the Illy coffee is not fair trade. ENTER this Breville Dose Grinder (not the pro version): I followed the others advice here and ground at 17 and it’s perfect for the Roma. The world of fair trade and tasty coffees has opened to me. I got this on sale too - grab one - stop torturing yourself. And if you own a ninja food processor - know this thing is really quiet in comparison.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 7, 2025Verified PurchaseGarbage. Used it 3-4 times per week and it crapped out a week after the short 1 year warranty.
Breville was useless, and added countless steps to a process that did not work.
Save your time and money, shop for something else.
This used to be a good brand, but now their stuff is sub-par.
- Reviewed in Canada on April 17, 2019Verified PurchaseI can confirm that 鶹 now ships this model with a metal impeller, so it looks like the problem with this model is indeed solved. After using it for one day I can already tell that It's a great grinder. After my second Espressione grinder broke I looked up reviews on all conical burr grinders up to $150 and for every one of them people are complaining either about reliability or grinding uneven and not fine enough for espresso. We use it strictly for espresso, so that's what I'm rating it for. On settings of 7 (out of 60) it almost blocked my machine, it was literally dripping coffee instead of 2 solid streams I was getting on my old conical burr grinder. That's what I was looking for! It has to be very slow to extract fine espresso and I just could not manage it before. Grinding directly into portafilter is very convenient. Note, unlike more expensive model this one does NOT have a timer, it's strictly manual. But to fill portafilter you have to grind until its' full with a mount of coffee on top, tamp it, then gring again to fill. So timer would not make much sense I guess. You still need to do it twice. On the fine setting I used it was not speweing coffee around as some people complained. Just a few particles un the removable tray, nothing on the counter.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 26, 2025Verified PurchaseThis unit has worked perfectly for me since I got it a few months ago. I love it! However it is made of plastic not aluminum (ad now says stainless steel). I complained about it as soon as it arrived and it is still advertised as aluminum. This needs to be corrected!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coffee grinder!!!
Verified PurchaseWas looking for my first high quality grinder at an affordable price. Most of the other models have a timer or stop by wieght. This model has a manual button. I find it to be just fine without those features. I simply weigh the amount of beans prior to grinding. Then I know the correct amount of coffee is ready. Does not take much time. I bought a cheap digital scale. Under $10 bucks. It has metal burrs and grinds extremely fine for esspresso. Very pleased with purchase. I would recommend also purchasing a funnel for your portafilter. This does away with any small cleanup.
DreMoneyExcellent coffee grinder!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well and a little messy
Verified PurchaseWorks great with the exception of having to watch the grind and run it multiple times in order to avoid making a mess. The nature of the beast is also that the portafilter basket tends to drip water onto the base. These are problem that were avoided using a container to catch the grinds and then pouring them into the portafilter. It is easily adjusted.
