Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Visually spectacular, intensely action-packed and powerfully prophetic since its debut, Blade Runner returns in Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut, including extended scenes and never-before-seen special effects.
In a signature role as 21st-century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. In a future of high-tech possibility soured by urban and social decay, Deckard hunts for fugitive, murderous replicants—and is drawn to a mystery woman whose secrets may undermine his soul. This incredible version features the definitive Final Cut of Ridley Scott's legendary sci-fi classic.

A remastered classic that is better than Blade Runner 2049

- Reviewed in Canada on February 6, 2025Verified PurchaseBlade Runner: The Final Cut is the film as the director wanted it, so with this one you get exactly the vision he had, away from the pressure from executives and other higher ups of the movie industry.
This blu-ray version remasters the movie very well, and watching it before or after the recent sequel will almost make it feel like it was made around the same time, sometimes. The wide angle city scenes are especially overhauled visually thanks to the crystal clear images, and it doesn't look bad at all. Rachael has never looked as good as it did on this high definition format! I don't think they'll ever make a better version of this movie on physical format, unless we start having entire theaters at home, so I highly recommend it.
There's some bonus content, maybe not enough for a "definitive" Blade Runner experience, but enough to quench your thirst. This includes commentary by Ridley Scott in person who can accompany you as you watch the movie.
The only bad thing I have to say about it is that the movie launches immediately when you insert the disc. The menu can only be summoned later, and it's a bad menu at that. Navigating through it will cause confusion at first. Verily, blu-ray menus have absolutely nothing good to offer, especially when compared with early 2000's DVD menus. I really wish they could enhance this aspect in the future, and stop being lazy.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 15, 2023Verified PurchaseThe first time i saw this movie years and years ago i hated it.I was the kind of guy that had grew up with harrison ford in star wars and indiana jones so i was expecting the same type of movie.Boy was i wrong lol. When i started watching this i was trown off by the very slow pace and metaphoric nature of the movie. Then over time the movie grew on me everytime i watched it again either on tv or on the vhs that i bought of it.The thing is i learned to appreciate and like what the movie was trying to do not what i wanted it to be in the first place.Over the years i became amazed at what Ridley Scott created. The movie has a stunning vision of the future. The direction is amazing from Ridley Scott. The sets, the special fx,The outstanding music score from Vangelis all come together to create a total masterpiece for the senses and eyes.Sure its not an action packed adventure like indiana jones or star wars but its not meant to be.Its a science fiction thriller. Its a slow burner.Like a detective film noire story set in an amazing world. The actors are great.Harrison Ford,Rugter Hauer,Darryl Hannah...ect..I didnt watch the 4k but the bluray looks pretty good. There is no DNR but the grain structure and details is not as good as it is on fresh remastered blurays.Unfortunately its not a freshly new remastered bluray. Its a bluray from a restoration done a few years back for 2k i think.I heard the 4k looks amazing.A lot better than the bluray. So if you got a player already your in for quite a treat.extras are good there is lots of them. But if you own the 5 discs set hold on to that cause thats the best set for extras.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 26, 2014Verified PurchaseThe 3 disk Final Cut version is probably the best gift you could get for science fiction geek or film buff.
US theatrical release cut. International theatrical release cut. Directors cut. The "Work Print Cut" that inspired going back to fix up the technical flaws in Blade Runner. And the new "Final Cut".
And then the extras, on top of that. I think they added up to something like 6 hours of documentaries.
The film had 3 art directors. They have commentary by all 3 art directors.
- Production was held up due to strikes in Hollywood that year, so the film was in pre-production for several extra months, and the art directors and their teams were working enhancing their plans all that time.
- This film was the pinnacle of practical special effects. After it computer generated effects took over. So they go into detail on exactly how they did everything and why they did it that way. Its an art direction course in a box!
The film had two screen writers, in addition to Phillip K. Dick who wrote the story that inspired them. The have lively commentary by both screen writers. So screen writing course in a box too!
And of course they have commentary by director Ridley Scott. And he talks about the nitty gritty of directing, how to save money, who to get the best from the people working for you. Not the usual fluff.
That immense list of extras 鶹 has put in the product description, a couple of dozen entries long, they're all worth it. Its all extensive and great info presented in an interesting way.
A note on the Final Cut. Blade Runner production was cut short because it ran over budget and ran over the budget extension (the completion bond). That meant the original versions had a couple of flaws that many enthusiasts noticed.
Ridley Scott and his team went back, went through the excess film footage (which due to a warehousing error had never been discarded) and corrected as much as they could. Then they got some of the original actors back to fix defects like the notorious wrong wig -- using computer techniques to only change the wig. They got Harrison Ford's son in to fix the incorrect mouth movements in the market, using computer techniques to keep Harrison's face, but replace the lips with his son's as his son says the words in the sound track.
Its all seamless, just little corrections to glaring errors in the original film. And you can see what it originally looked like since you also get the 3 earlier releases and the work cut version.
People will debate which version of Blade Runner is best. Ridley Scott says the Final Cut is his favorite.
Blade Runner is one of the world's really great sci-fi films. I highly recommend this film to any adult or teenager who likes a great plot, great acting and great special effects. And as I said at the start, this is the best gift you can get a sci-fi geek or film buff.
When you go to watch it, play Ridley Scott's short introduction, then play the Final Cut.
Then you can spend the next month or two going through all the extras and other versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2017 Review for New Interested Film Fans
Verified PurchaseDo Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? (1968) ...is a cultish favorite Philip K. Dick novel which young Sci-Fi aficionado's such as I went scrambling to unearth after we were mesmerized by his classic masterpiece The Man In The High Castle, the novel which brought him legions of fans. Philip was an unusual writer with an ability to write both in a very literary style and yet come across in a very contemporary ease. He was also a unique thinker in science fiction stories, being able to plow new troughs instead of retreading old worn out paths like most pulp novelists of the time were doing. This is still a fact today and yet amazingly enough, new readers of Dick's stories will find fresh ideas that were written in the 60's. The movie The Adjustment Bureau is a fine example of an old science fiction tale (The Adjustment Team) by Dick which is novel and intriguing in the 21st Century. This is probably a main reason his works are now coming to film and TV in abundance (Next, Total Recall, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, Screamers, The Adjustment Bureau, and now on 鶹 TV, The Man In The High Castle). In 1981, Ridley Scott was making a new epic based on a relatively unknown (by public standards in 1981) sci-fi authors story!
So BLADE RUNNER had audience appeal as a spectacle film to the some audience theater goers, but to geeky Sci-Fi fans and not-so-geeky movie fans in general, it developed a near cult status over a period of just a decade following its theatrical release. It was not that successful on initial release because Indiana Jones now looked like a depressed Philip Marlowe and the Film Noir narration was seriously lacking even though the dystopian color affected a Film Noir feeling. The cinematic style was a huge leap far and above the actual plot and script, so you had a gorgeous film with rather weak main character delivery. If you are new to Blade Runner you may want to skip the Theatrical Version of the movie right away and save it for later viewing. The film went through several incarnations thanks to some interesting theaters that began showing "Road Show" prints of the film a decade after its initial run, these somewhat rare vault copies energized new interest in the film and what we got resulted in a 1992 "Directors Cut" without the tough guy voice over and without the "happy ending" (it in fact more closely resembles the original Dick story). Also included in this set is a 1982 "International" version which played mainly in Europe and had extended scenes to the Theatrical version.
The main draw here is 25th Anniversary "Final Cut" assembled by Ridley Scott and which is so superior in so many ways to any other version that it makes Blade Runner into a wholly new and absolutely perfect film. Now Harrison Ford seems to fit better and more interesting than before (or maybe it just is a matter of age and the era in which we live, post-911).
There are featurettes in abundance on the 4th disc (The Enhancement Archive), if you are a Sci-Fi geek somewhere on a par with Sheldon Cooper, this will be your pee-in-your-pants bonus disc, but even if you are not, Dek-A-Rep and the two about the novel and the author are very interesting to watch and highly recommended.
The Final Cut took over 10 years to complete by Ridley Scott and one can see how painstakingly meticulous he paid attention to detail, especially if you have the gumption to watch it back to back against the Theatrical version.
Without spoilers, when watching this film, you will find subtly a treatise on what it means to be human and what it means to have a personal identity, in a rough way it ponders (not nearly as well as) the same questions brought up in Steven Spielberg/Stanley Kubrick's classic AI, Artificial Intelligence.
Blade Runner had to work really hard to become a "classic", but when one considers the director and his many masterpieces delivered over the years (still going strong by finishing up the Alien series with finality and about to embark on making Justin Cronin's PASSAGE trilogy into three films), one has to give a big nod to this as a real work of cinematic art and Ridley Scott is truly one of the best directors of modern times.
I purchased this over 7 years ago and have managed to watch everything on the four discs at least once, and the Final Cut about once a year, the other versions at least twice each in that time, so entertainment value versus price is premium!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ridley sei Dank
Verified PurchaseZu Aller erst:
Also gleich mal Žrausgenommen und geschaut.
Also mal weiter ausgepackt
Will heissen natürlich auf stabiler, formbeständiger Klarsichtfolie.
Unbedingt zulegen
- spart Platz
- sieht super genial aus
- beinhaltet alles was man braucht ob man nun neu oder alt eingesessen
ٳնŽ
- Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis meiner Ansicht nach optimal
