It works as intended. I was scared it might ruin my stand mixer as it's not an OEM part. However it worked fine. Only down side is I used BIG glasses and you need a couple pucks to fill them lol.

鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
This attachment is designed to be connected at the front of your Kitchenaid stand mixer. Kitchenaid mixers have an area where you can connect various attachments, in this case, allowing them to use the motor of your mixer to power the shaving blades. Since we already have our mixer out and it lives on the counter, the accessory is convenient to use whenever it is desired or needed.

You use it by adding pre-frozen ice blocks that are made using the included ice molds and then, putting the ice blocks into the accessory. The attachment is spring loaded, so you will add the ice blocks in and it will continue to push them towards the blade. It will start shaving the ice and producing fluffy shavings which will exit through a hole and drop downwards. These ice shavings are perfect for a cold iced beverage, and kids (and adults) are sure to enjoy it.

It only takes about a minute to get enough ice to be able to make a drink. The ice can be mixed into a number of different drinks such as juice, water or even coffee to create an iced coffee. You can also buy specific syrup to create the iconic slush flavours that we have grown up with.

The box includes 8 plastic cups and lids that you will fill with liquid (water can be used for plain ice). You will place the cups into the freezer to freeze them so that they can be used with the shaver. When you remove the cups out of the freezer, let them thaw slightly before using it in the device to ensure the ice is not super frozen and hard. You likely want to use one of the more powerful settings on your mixer to ensure that the ice is able to be shaved nicely and that there is enough power for the motor.

Because the ice shavings drop out of the bottom of the unit, you will want to place a bowl beneath in order to catch them.

One tip is to mix with a liquid or juice that is already cold when adding your ice shavings, this will ensure it does not melt the shavings right away. Alternatively, you can freeze your liquid into the molds and shave it down directly instead of diluting it with ice.

The only thing to keep in mind is that you need to plan ahead before attempting to use this, since you cannot really use regular ice cubes and should be using the molds in order to make the appropriate sized ice blocks. It may take a bit of trial and error the first time you use it, but once you get used to it, the process is actually really simple.

I like the idea of this - the execution isn't bad, either. The entire unit is basically just a spring-loaded plunger that you insert cups of ice into and make your mixer spin it into a blade that shaves the ice. Easier than a handheld one.

The little cups that you use to freeze ice into have a plus shaped notch in the bottom so you can fit the metal pegs inside to help it from slipping. It's very awkward to actually do that and I found it didn't really make much difference as the pegs have plenty of grip to keep the ice from slipping.

You will always be left with a 5-6mm thick disc at the end, which makes sense as plunger stops before you get anywhere near hitting the metal pegs.

I did notice, however, that the middle of the blade assembly had the beginnings of a dimple ground into it after making a few days' worth of bowls. This seems to be from ice spikes/bumps from your ice (when the top freezes before the middle and kind of pushes up) so I will be sure to chip those off going forward. If that portion of the shaver was metal it wouldn't be a problem, so just know that going in.

Other than that it gives you nice, snow-like ice shavings for whatever dessert you have in mind.

I recently picked up the Shave Ice Attachment for my KitchenAid stand mixer, and I have to say, it's been a fun addition to our summer treat lineup! As a busy mom of three, convenience is key, and this little gadget definitely delivers. It’s straightforward to use: just pop some pre-frozen ice blocks (made from the included molds) into the attachment, and in about a minute, you’ve got a bowl full of fluffy, snow-like ice shavings.

We’ve been experimenting with different flavors and syrups, which the kids absolutely love. The only thing to keep in mind is that you need to plan ahead since you can’t just toss in regular ice cubes—you’ve got to freeze your own. The first time I used it, I didn’t have any ice blocks ready, which led to some disappointed little faces. But once we got the hang of it, it’s been a breeze!

One downside I've noticed is that it leaves a little disc of ice at the end, which I kind of wish it could shave all the way through. Also, while it’s generally sturdy, I’ve started to see a bit of wear on the blade after a handful of uses. However, it still produces great ice shavings, so I’m not too worried about it yet.

Overall, if you’re looking for a way to make homemade slushies or shaved ice treats this summer, this attachment is worth considering!

This is working well, however it is not made to last. The plastic parts are showing wear already after less than 10 uses. It's great for now and then light use, but I think if I continue to use it every day or every other day, it will eventually break. I don't think it's worth the price tag.

This Ice Shaver Attachment is the first attachment I ordered for my KitchenAid 6 qt mixer and I couldn't be happier. It is simple to install and easy to use. The instructions are very clear and the shaver itself is designed such that its operation is intuitive.

I froze juice in the ice mold cups provided. The included lids make them easy to store in the freezer and not worry about spills. One frozen, you pop them out of the cup and place in the shaver unit. The shaver unit installs into the attachment slot at the front of the mixer. You twist apart the two pieces of the shaver, pull back the plunger, slip in the ice, twist it back together, press the release button, place a bowl underneath, turn the mixer on and WHALA, flavored shaved ice is filling your bowl! The ice is light and fluffy and COLD!

Now I am on the lookout for other juices and syrups to flavor the ice with.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a KitchenAid Brand OEM Part, but it Works Okay
Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2024
鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I ordered this thinking that it is an original KitchenAid OEM part.
    It is NOT.
This is not made clear in the product description. The actual brand is never even mentioned, except in tiny letters in the product information box.
The wordy description never even mentions the brand, except to say it is for KitchenAid mixers (and at one point reads "KitchenAid Shaved Ice Accessory."
The photos are misleading, with the KitchenAid logo visible on the mixer in some product photos (tellingly, in one photo, the logo is backwards/reversed, and on the actual product box, the logo is completely photoshopped out. ) I feel this was intentionally misleading.
On its own merits, it does work okay once you figure out how to use it. It just isn't OEM quality and has several issues.
The biggest drawback I see is that you have to freeze the ice you want to use in advance, using the eight molds, to make 8 hockey puck-sized ice "cakes" that are the very specific, required size to use in the ice maker attachment.
The instructions state that the freezing time of the ice mold should not be too long - apparently, if it is hard frozen more than 24/48 hours, it will reduce the service life of the blade. This seems like a big inconvenience to me - you have to really plan ahead to make shaved ice. You can't keep the ice ready in the freezer for any length of time until you need it. Kind of a hassle. No thanks.
Once the water is solidly frozen in the mold, it isn't that easy to get out. It would have been better to make the molds of silicone material to make the ice easier to unmold. The stiff plastic lids are also hard to get off. You actually have to melt your ice puckey's a bit, to unmold them.
It does make acceptable shaved ice, but is it worth the hassle, let alone the price?
I don't think the product is well designed for convenient use and/or longevity.
    I regret ordering it.

I've really enjoyed shave ice while in Hawaii, but there aren't any places at home that fit the bill. I figured that this add on for my stand mixer would allow me to control the quality of the ingredients to approximate the Hawaiian experience. While the unit works well, a couple of things give me pause. The fact that you have to use the specific molds makes it a little tough to have a spontaneous treat. The molds make it tough to get the ice out so I suspect I'll end up losing at least one over the summer trying to free the puck. While the unit works well, it feels a little lightweight, considering the fairly steep price of this unit.

We actually already had a snowcone maker but it took up so much room in the cabinet and was such a hassle to pull out and clean each times so I was super excited to order this and free up some room! Works great, and comes with several ice cups to make ice in for a serving of shaved ice. I really like that as it already measures out a serving for you, and I don't have to keep up with having ice in the freezer or ice maker when we want a treat. This is super easy to use, so easy my 12 year old was able to make his own! Really shaves the ice down thin so it's easy to eat although it does seem to melt a lot faster but it does make some great treats! Easy to take apart and clean and store away as well!
