    This product triggers Apple’s HomeKit setup process the moment you connect to it from your phone to set it up. Apple then hijacks the setup, asking if you want to use the Home app. If you say yes, you’re locked into Apple’s path with no way to back out. Say no? The iPhone drops the connection and blocks further setup. Since it was not recognised by Bluetooth, setup is impossible.

    If you scan the QR code it also locks you in to the Home app. The QR code is unrecognised by the Meross App.

    There is no warning on the product page that this device is essentially unusable for iPhone users unless you plan to set it up through Apple’s ecosystem — which is not what I bought it for.

    It appears to be deliberate behavior by Apple, and manufacturers need to take responsibility for how it affects their customers. If you're not planning to use Apple Home, or if you want to configure the device using its native app, good luck.

    Until they fix this or clearly warn buyers, I can’t recommend it. Returned.

    These Meross plugs are great. They are simple to setup with Apple HomeKit and so far very reliable. I have 5 of them in use and the convenience of turning lights on and off without bending around other furniture is fantastic. I also like that I can set them to just come on at a specific time or just turn them on and off when we’re not at home. Highly recommended.
