Worked top-notch for my purpose (sew together a few layers of aluminum clad thick cloth with some Velcro on top, see picture). The steel is very soft so the needles bend easily, especially if you need to use pliers (and you do with something like adhesive backed velcro); however this is rather an advantage: you can easily bend them back and it is much better than if they broke or snapped.
Steel is rather soft, but this is actually an advantage.
