  I dipped into this one after finishing the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons which is an absolute epic masterpiece. Simmons even credits this series as being the pinnacle of futuristic military sci-fi, and an inspiration for his own writing. While a decent read that does give some pause and thought as to the necessities and fog of warfare, i find the Hyperion series runs laps around this one. Still, i'll probably check out the sequel one of these days to finish it up.
