It seems odd that such a successful original film's sequel was delayed but that seems to be the case. Stone mentions in both films the 50's classic executive suite, which he adds a commentary,is a business film we should watch starring barbara stanwyck,an added treat to watch the film. One of the reasons why Stone's film are so good is that he such a fan of film, very knowledgeable of classic films, and what made them so valuable,as well as modern films, and that breadth of knowledge and skill is brought to his films...he seems almost like an american hitchcock in loving films more than actors...and the stars...the stars are there to add to the film and not vice versa...i'm the biggest culprit of liking name stars but it takes away in a sense to the watching of the film...and here we have the luxury of michael douglas,an older and more polished actor, and he seems all too comfortable in a role he was made for. Stone should thank this star for making a hit of the film...and giving him added name recognition. Here we are away from the original world of wall street which dealt with the soul of an investor, making and diverting money where he could maximize his returns,to investors who now must deal with the money capitals of a world bent on hegemony...a reversal which is astounding in such a short amount of time from the last film. There are a bevy of world symbols from the orient to europe and its interesting how the soul concept is lost and we now have a film largely about a country the u.s. as it deals with its changed status in the world...there are ideas Stone mentions like full employment(which used to be 2,..now 4...now 6..what next)..to debt levels...and also
capitalist states like china ...and he doesnt mention Russia...just how everyone is doing the same thing..competitions on vast scales and structures...making the establishment of perfect like nations essential to succeed...who are the winners and losers in today's world...its a film which is interesting and helped much by having Douglas in it who breathes personal interst and vibrancy into every scene...where is that liberace film where all waiting for...i think he finds it odd that people like this character who lusts for money...and thats why he always seems lost..but the character has a didactic side to him in exposing what is wrong with today's world and the decline of some western economies...he matured and came upon these views in jail is that believable? a cinematic device...Getko finds redemption and sees what's lost...he's found his soul...but in too many places the world resembles that of the 1030's without that era's resolution(not everyone will agree with Stone's views or this film..but it does make you think which is not a bad thing?)
