Customer Review

I saw this from the perspective of one who has seriously studied ancient Rome - even to the extent of getting a B.A. in classics at the age of 66.
It has some good moments, but the history and character portrayals are sometimes woefully not in accord with reality. Later Roman historians had a tendency to politicize and exaggerate and much of that makes it into this production. Totally left out is mention of his illness after which he apparently went insane. The character of Claudius is also not credible. He may have had some physical disability, but he was no fool.
