  This book is one of the classics of 20th-century literature, and answers the question of if the totalitarian states of the century (the 3rd Reich, Stalin’s Soviet Union, et cetera) had gotten out of control and were allowed to do ANYTHING they wanted. The book is at a time when the memory of the free world had dissipated and the government of Oceania/The Ingsoc Party, referred to as “The Party”. Great read.
