Wiring an accessory to my vehicle, this cable cutter easily sliced through 4 and 6 AWG multi-strand cables. The copper wire strands were slightly frayed, but side cutters cleaned that up. The ratcheting mechanism is smooth, and the blades are sharp, requiring minimal effort to cut cable. Setting up the cutter for the wire gauge is simple. Flicking a small lever allows the handles to be spread open to their widest point to readjust the opening of the hinged, ratcheted (toothed) cutting jaw. The other cutting jaw remains stationary.
The build quality of this cutter feels good in the hand and doesn鈥檛 feel like it will fall apart anytime soon! The same cannot be said for the storage case. I found broken pieces of plastic inside the case, which were likely designed to keep the tool in place during transport. The clasps that keep the case lid closed are also a failure point. This is more of an observation, as this wire-cutting tool will likely end up in my toolbox.
The blades showed no signs of machine oil, and the instruction leaflet lacked care instructions for prolonging their lifespan. While not razor-sharp, the blades feature bevelled cutting edges that cut through cable effortlessly. The textured, rubber-like handles provide an excellent grip with or without work gloves on. Overall, I am satisfied with this product, and it earns five out of five stars!
