This is a 5 star product, but I removed 1 star because the kit did not include any plumbers putty. Here鈥檚 my reasoning:
After installation, I set the thermostat to 20C. It鈥檚 currently October, so I am using heating only. A few hours later, my house was too warm. I checked a mercury thermometer near the Ecobee thermostat and it was 22C in my house, despite the Ecobee saying it was 20C. Called the support line and was told that the thermostat picks up air drafts coming from the hole in the wall where the thermostat wiring comes out, and causes incorrect temperature readings. The fix is to use plumbers putty to plug that hole. Luckily I had some plumbers putty on hand; I plugged the wiring hole and within an hour, the thermostat read the house temp correctly.
I Googled this issue, and it seems to be a common issue based on the number of results I found.
For the price of this thermostat, Ecobee could include a lump of plumbers putty in the package. PP is cheap, and it would prevent a lot of customer service calls.
I tried contacting customer service via chat, but you need WhatsApp or Facebook messenger- I have neither, so I called. About a twenty minute hold time. Rep was helpful and patient.
The only issue remaining is the humidity sensor. It seems to be reading a higher value than what the house humidity actually is. I鈥檓 going to get a separate humidity gauge and if I鈥檓 right, I will manually adjust the thermostat for the offset.
Other than these start up issues, the thermostat does a great job of evenly heating my home. Far better performance than from my previous non-smart thermostat.
App was easy to set up and use. No issues so far.
