鶹 Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
It's a real shame - this could easily be a five star product except for a couple of little things.

Let's start with unboxing. I was super-impressed the moment I opened the box. The packaging is 100% first-rate. Everything was so well protected, and from the moment you opened it, it was obvious how the main frame went together. (which is good, because the instructions leave something to be desired). The pole was assembled in under two minutes, and then I hit my first snag. when I went to screw on the base - it was nearly impossible, because the threaded pole on the base wasn't tightly attached, so it'd just freely spin when trying to screw it into the bottom of the pole. The bottom of the base has some nice rubberized coating on it, and I eventually had to punch a hole in the middle of this and tighten the nut that holds the base-pole in place. It was so loose I could tighten it several turns by hand before going to get some tools. With that fixed, voila - the base of the light and the pole were together.

Then snag number two. The lampshade comes rolled up. There are 6 pieces of wire that you have to put together with plastic couplers to build the shade frame, then you have to clip the shade on to the finished frame. Immediately this was a pain because the little plastic couplers and the wire don't fit together tightly, so they're prone to popping apart when you're trying to get the next piece attached. Eventually got this done, and screwed on the ring at the base of the shade that goes under the light bulb. Now I had the frame for the shade.

The shade material snaps onto the frame with little metal clips embedded on the inside of the shade. These were a nightmare, and easy to bend. Once one is bent, you have to fix it with needle nose pliers in order to get it to snap over the frame. I'm very handy - and was being as gentle as possible - but I still bent 3. There's also no instructions about HOW to do this part. Once you have the shade all clipped on, it becomes obvious that there's a velcro closure that will now hold the shade together. Fine... but - it didn't quite fit. See my attached picture. There was a big gap on the bottom closure, but it fit better at the top. I had to work it around, pulling the wire back out of the plastic couplers a bit at a time (so that the whole thing becomes less stable) until I got the gap small enough to be unnoticeable. Still, this seam will need to face a wall.

Then there's the last issue - the shade just sits on top of the light. You can see that the base it sits on is threaded - but they chose not to make the base of the shade threaded - nor did they include an additional ring you can screw on to keep the shade in place. The end result is that if bump into the lamp AT ALL, or even if a strong breeze comes through you window, the shade falls to one side all askew.

It's a shame - I can fix these little things myself now - maybe just get a whole new shade - but I shouldn't have to. With the shade fixed, it really will be a beautiful, and very solid lamp.

The base is great - but the shade leaves a lot to be desired.
