- Reviewed in Canada on May 8, 2018Upon recommendation, I bought this 2 pack to care for my Lodge Cast Iron. Turns out, they work incredibly for anything in my kitchen.
鈥⑩ Material Applications 鈥⑩
Cast Iron? The scrapers are gentle enough to avoid removing seasoning but can still tackle burned on ANYTHING.I couldn't recommend them more if you need to care for cast iron. Note: it did remove my initial layer of seasoning, which was the "factory pre-season." Don't ever rely on it. Always season your cast iron yourself. Subsequent scrapings haven't damaged it in the slightest.
Stainless Steel? Surprisingly, this is where the scrapers shine brightest. The other night, I forest fired some ground beef into the bottom of my All-Clad skillet. After a light soak, I scraped it with my wire brush... to no effect. I then turned to my abrasive, spiky dish cloth... to minimal effect. Finally, I pulled out the Lodge scraper and went to town. It effortlessly removed 99% of the burnt-on carbon. It even removed a bunch of the browned remnants that have plagued the pan's bottom. A quick scrubby pad later, and it looked awesome!
Non-stick? While I haven't used them on traditional teflon coatings, I have used them on "The Rock," which has a pebbly non-stick surface. As with everything else, they work perfectly because they're gentle. No damage to report.
鈥⑩ Durability 鈥⑩
They're TOUGH, really tough. Don't believe me? Check Dorothy's review where she claims to have used them for 5 years. I absolutely believe her and think they could last longer depending on your application. From a flexibility standpoint, they barely bend when pressing hard, but they have just enough give to work on curved surfaces. That's when the usefulness of the shape comes to bear. The scrapers are not perfect squares, which means you can get into hard to reach places such as the curvature of a skillet.
鈥⑩ Additional Uses 鈥⑩
I have a large, wooden cutting board. Sometimes, I slice and onion/garlic and miss a piece or twenty until the next day. By then, they've stuck to the bottom. I don't want to scrape them off with metal because that can damage the board. The lodge scrapers work exceptionally, as always, in this capacity. They're also great for counter tops or anything requiring sensitive scraping.
