  Lets you mount a GPS right on the centre of the dash, where it does not obstruct the windshield within your line of view (important in some jurisdictions). also will likely allow for unobtrusive routing of power cable to one side or the other of the centre stack in any car, and to a power outlet.
  It fastens quite securely, in my car with or without the supplied padding strips - I chose to use them as that just might prevent marring the CD slot if ever it did slip, but that is unlikely to happen.
  If the design were to be imporved in any way, it might be to stiffen the ball joint stack a bit, as on rough roads there is a bit of vibration of the GPS, but nothing serious.
