  I originally bought this as I didn't want one that would permanently be there, but this one does actually require you to drill holes in the wall for it to hold. I believe it's so the suction doesn't damage the wall, but these small random pieces would be stuck to the wall if I don't have the gate there. Without the little plastic thing you drill into the wall, it doesn't hold great, but I think it would be good if you are ok with a few holes in your doorway/wall.
