- Reviewed in Canada on January 23, 2024I have been a fan of Neewer products for years. To me, they are the best brand of affordable photography accessories on the market. I have seldom needed their customer service, but when I have, they have always been prompt and helpful. This 2 packs of collapsable speedlight softboxes are an excellent example of Neewer鈥檚 quality and design.
The softboxes come in a convenient zippered carrying pouch with a divider inside to help keep one softbox compressed while removing the one you want to use.
If you correlate price with quality, you鈥檒l be surprised to discover, these softboxes are made of robust materials. They should hold up to years of use, which is especially key for a product designed to be repeatedly folded and unfolded.
The silver reflector is a pro-grade lining that will maximize light output, and prevent the loss of power from the flash. The light generated from the softbox is diffused, providing fill light and eliminating harsh shadows.
The diffusers attach to the flash by an elastic strap using Velcro, allowing you to attach it to flashes of different shapes and sizes. The softbox is light enough to not affect handheld shooting or unbalancing tripods but take some care in outdoor situations where wind may buffet the softbox and cause tipping.
The adaptability of these softbox diffusers is they are compatible with nearly any brand hot shoe flash unit.
With the small size of both, either shape is up to the task of softening the light on your subject. For situations where you鈥檒l have a catch light, I would prefer the octagon to provide a highlight as opposed to the square box which might be too angular and distracting.
Like all tools, these softboxes have uses where they excel. These diffusers are ideal for close-up and macro photography, as well as product photos and use in smaller spaces.
I wouldn鈥檛 hesitate to recommend these speedlight softboxes from Neewer.
