The ISTORAGE 5X Large Magnifying Glass with Light is a battery-operated magnifier that runs on 3-AAA batteries. It has a mixture of warm and cool white LEDS that can be turned on separately or together. I'm not sure why they chose this combination for this type of product as variable intensity cool white would have been the best choice for clarity and sharpness. The product has a pivoting handle that houses a battery compartment with a loose fitting door. They included a cleaning cloth, but no batteries or case. I think it is best to storage it in the plastic bag to protect the lens when not in use. The lens itself is plastic Fresnel-type lens that magnifies very well up to about 5x, but has noticeable distortion beyond that range. There is also a prism effect on the edges of letters which is hard to overcome unless you have the magnifier and your eyes in exactly the correct alignment. I am quite fussy when it comes to optics and it is an area which I have quite a bit of experience in. Personally, I would find using this product very irritating and a strain on my eyes. However, it may be suitable for some consumers that need it for quick, short term use.
Overall, I think that inexpensive optics are usually not worth buying and I would class this item in that category.
