  best results with the head removed .
  
  but if you can't ,
  use a vacuum cleaner duct taped to the intake while it is BLOWING air
  crank the engine till the intake valve is open and the exhaust is closed .
  put grease on the supplied tap.
  then slowly tap the hole for the insert.
  the escaping air pushes loose chips out of the cylinder and the grease
  traps the rest .
  
  de-grease the new hole before using the inserts .
  
  if the head is off , you can skip the blower and grease
  then stake the insert from the cylinder side to prevent it from walking out
