Customer Review

I devoured Don Winslow's cartel trilogy. My expectations were very high for this new trilogy. Overall, I had a great time, but it was not as interesting as the cartel, where I actually learned many things. This trilogy is more like The Sopranos meet Goodfellas. It's still worth reading. Basically, this trilogy is a rewriting of The Illiad, The Odyssey and The Aeneid, set in the 80's and 90's. The books are overflowing with references to these mythological tales. Sometimes, they are pretty obvious (such as the characters of Pam who is Helen and Cassie who is Cassandra), other times, they are a bit more subtle but eventually, I was able to see them and it changed my whole understanding of the plot. Don Winslow wanted to show that all tales pretty much come from Homer and Virgil and maybe he's right.
