  Rewiring at the furnace chip board is required if your existing thermostat runs on a four wire system. The conversion kit to five wires will have to be used(included with the ecobee)in order for the new thermostat to work. Not difficult to do but definitely a must! Once working, it's a great system. Highly recommend it.
