It includes all of the major plant, tree, shrub, etc. species of Canada, each with a beautiful colour photo and/or artist's drawing. Each entry has a nice photo (some have multiple photos), as well as information on the medicinal use and edible (or inedible) parts of the plant. It also has an extremely important section on poisonous species to avoid. One of the nice little bonuses is that it often provides a few sentences on the historical uses of the plant by Aboriginal Peoples and settlers. This is a fun way to learn how the plant has been used over the centuries. The book was also put together by a team of academics and seasoned veterans, so it even includes some of the scientific evidence for the health benefits of each plant.
When the book arrived, I couldn't believe how great of a value it was. With so many colourful photos of beautiful plants and trees, this would even be a great coffee table book for those who aren't necessarily hikers. I myself plan to use it to learn all about the beautiful species of plants that inhabit Canada. When you see the photos and start identifying plants all around you (even in cities it is easy to spot them once you know them) you will never look at nature the same way again. All of the "weeds" I used to ignore I now see as beautiful plants that all have their own value, even if they aren't necessarily the thing people want on their manicured lawns.
If you are interested in learning about the plant species of Canada and/or want to learn the functional uses of plants in your local forest or field, this is the book for you. It is a great value and full of beautiful pictures and interesting facts. A+
