I guess I had the wrong expectation and initially was disappointed that this book was by no means comprehensive; but to be fair this is a book about the Shah not necessarily Iran recent history. It is a good read for someone like me in the sense it sheds some light on why the generations before me chose to overthrow the Shah and how their movement was democratic in nature but got ultimately hijacked. Also the US role in the fall of the Shah was something completely new for me. Still, I would say I expected a lot more details from the book but it was mostly focused on the interaction and communication of the Shah and foreign powers. I might have benefited more, had I been more knowledgeable on Iran recent history (or more accurately period of Mohamad Reza Shah reign). I think the author has done a great job remaining neutral and avoided pressing on his personal opinions. I will probably read this book again.
