- Reviewed in Canada on January 12, 2020I recently bought this coffeemaker and felt it was a good choice for the money, plus it had strong online reviews.
The pros:
-Simple design makes for easy setup and use
-Very large 12 cup thermal carafe is great
-Carafe pours cleanly and fast
-Carafe has a wide opening, big enough to fit your hand in for cleaning. This is a huge plus for me.
-Coffee tastes good, AFTER I fixed the plastic taste
The cons:
-LCD screen is not backlit, making reading it during the day difficult and impossible at night unless the lights in the room are bright
-LCD screen is mounted in a manner such that I have to crouch down to read it
-Water reservoir difficult to clean
So, the plastic taste. I bought this unit and immediately hated it because the smell of plastic was so strong when brewing and I felt like I could taste it in the coffee. Interestingly, my wife didn't notice it. So I started reading online and apparently some people are more sensitive to the plastic taste than others. I tried cleaning it with soap and water and running a water/vinegar solution through the machine to no avail. Then I tried running about 5-6 cycles of the machine with a mix of 8 cups of water and 1.5 cups of 70% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol followed by several cycles of fresh water and that seemed to do the trick! My coffee this morning had no plastic smell and tasted great!
