This brand firstly belongs to Canada, that's a major bonus considering the climate we are living in and the US threats on becoming the 51st State. I took off a star because, the see through glass on top is completely useless as others say because you can't see anything in there really to tell you if your food is cooked or not because of the condensation. The other reason is because, I like the magnetic plug idea however you can plug it in both sides I mean if you plug it in one way it won't work and if you plug it in rotating it 180 degrees it'll work, maybe the plug shouldn't have been made so symetrical if it only works on one of the 180 degrees. I'm just saying this because I think that most people use a deep fryer like me, the plug is in the back of it. I've seen that other people say that the condensation when they open up the lid makes it leak onto the power cord, so trust me, I've been checking that a lot just to make sure and it hasn't happened so far since the month that I've bought it. It is smaller, which is clearly in the sellers description but I can comfortably make 2 batches of whatever I'm cooking to feed my teen and pre-teen at the same time. I don't really eat deep fried food per say but my teen & pre-teen said for me to keep it, it's much better than the air fryer for certain things like french fries, chicken & fish (it's not a cheap air fryer either btw it's like a Ninja 6 in 1 or something like that). Like every deep fryer, you need to adjust yourself to it, you don't have to per say follow the recipe book it came with, you try once with their book then you wing it. First time I made fries I did it at about the temperature they said and let it pre-heat like they said. Tbh, that's the only time I made them like that, it took way too long to preheat for the difference it makes (just like any deep fryers I've had in the past). Now, I just cut my potatoes into fries, turn on the deep fryer and put them in, they're ready wayyyyyyyy faster. I'm paying my Hydro, not Starfrit... so, I go with what is best for me. The only time I'd say I had a problem with the deep fryer was user error lol ;o) The second time I used it my teen wanted some pizza bites in there. Usually I put the same amount in for 4 mins at 375 in the air fryer. I figured I'll put them in for 4 mins at around 348 (I don't remember the exact temp for home made french fries in the Starfrit is but, I left it at that temp). They all blew up and were over cooked on the outside. Like I said though, that's user error, I prob should've put the temp way lower. I've tried many things in there so far and everything was always delicious, according to my children and they say the truth comes out of the mouth of children.
