The quality of the packaging, instructions, accessories, as well as the unit itself all indicate that it is being targeting at an upscale market. (Actually, the price is an exception to this notion as it is extremely reasonable.) But on the other hand, let's not forget that this is an obsolete device! Who really needs it? Yeah, maybe some packrats who continue to hang onto their cassettes, probably because of the investment in making their mix tapes. But how many of them have actually played those tapes in recent decades? Let's not forget that cassette tapes are mechanical devices that suffer wear and tear. IIRC, many of my cassette tapes would bind up so that they became unplayable and that was just after a couple of years, never mind decades. Further, the oxide coating on the tape, that gives it their recording properties, dis-adheres (not sure if this is a real word) over time so the recordings deteriorate. But, ours is not to reason why...
To comment on the device itself, I like it. It does play my old mix tapes. The fidelity is as good as I remember, but then that may be more of a reflection of my deteriorating hearing (and memory) than its actual audio performance. I like that it has a (albeit tinny) speaker so I don't have to remove my hearing aids to insert earphones. I like that it includes both an AM as well as an FM radio. For whatever reason, Blue Jays games are not broadcast over the FM band, so having an AM radio is very useful when attending games so that one has access to professional colour commentary. I would prefer that the batteries be rechargeable without having to remove them and put them in an external recharger, but maybe this makes it more authentic as a "battery eater". I would also like it to have blue tooth connectivity so I don't have to carry a second set of ear phones. But these are just quibbles. The small price for this device buys a lot of nostalgia.
