  I have never cleaned my dishwasher. It wasn't crazy dirty from what I could see, just normal dirty, but when I got these I threw two on. One in the bottom and one in the tray and ran a cycle with no dishes and it came out crystal clean. And I still have 28 left and will do this once a month to maintain that shine and hopefully extend the life of our fancy dishwasher
