  I've been using a chimney type charcoal starter which requires loading the charcoal into a cylinder and lighting a fire underneath. This charcoal starter works much faster and effectively. All you need to do is lay the charcoal over the starter and plug it in, and you will have red hot charcoal in a matter of minutes.
  
  I only wish it had an on/off switch.
