Jane Austin's story is as refreshing as ever, witty, humorous and romantic. The sentiments she expressed are real today as they were in her time and before that too, and one still sees pride and prejudice in many situations of living today. Lady Catherine and Miss Bingley may belong to the affluent society where they are considered genteel people, but Miss Austen shows they are just as ignorant and embarrassing in their manners, while Elizabeth and Jane, considered of lower birth, have attitudes that are of a vastly higher and nobler quality. It begs the question as to who really would pollute the shades of Pemberley? Lady Catherine with her negative and obnoxious attitude or Elizabeth with her honest, straightforward and positive attitude! I loved the 1938 film version starring Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson, but the 2005 version that has Keira Knightley playing Elizabeth and Matthew McFadyen as Mr Darcy, is the best so far. McFadyen gives a stunning portrayal of Mr Darcy, while Knightley is perfect as Elizabeth. The rest of the cast does credit to their roles. This is Jane Austen's best work and the directors, script writers and producers have done a great job in putting this film together. The TV version does not have the ending provided on the DVD.
