This was an excellent sequel. It helped to flush out some of my remaining questions from the first book, while still introducing many more. The scope of this story is crazy. Everything is connected and intertwined in ways I wasn't anticipating. It raises really interesting questions around fate and free will while being grounded in this epic fantasy battle.
It follows the same structure as the first book, following Caeden, Davian, Asha, and Wirr. They are all working towards the same goal of strengthening the boundary, but each plays a very different role. Compared to the first book, it does get off to a bit of a slow start. There is a lot of time spent with Caeden reliving snippets of his memory and I found this to be quite confusing. Although I think this was intentional as Caeden himself is questioning everything he learns. About halfway through the book things really started coming together and making more sense. Something I wanted more of from the first book was more Davian and Asha interaction which we didn't really get but I remain hopeful for the third book. I had one other issue with how some of the characters basically walk into a trap for no good reason, but overall I really enjoyed this book. Usually, I can predict the plot twists in a book, but this book really kept me on my toes. I'm extremely curious to see how the the story ends in the final book, especially after the epilogue scene in this one.
