  I couldn't put this book down. The author is able to conjure up the sights, smells and feelings of a time and place long gone. I felt like I was there alongside the author, enduring The hardships of the land and meanness of the residents. I wanted to shake the good but stubborn people of that time for their terrible behaviour of the native and part native people. Since that time, I know our society has come a long ways towards realizing that all people are equal but we still have a long way to go.
