Customer Review

I was a little bit skeptical about upgrading to a New 3DS, considering my old navy blue model still works fine. I had never previously had an XL version of a Nintendo handheld device either, as I often viewed the quality as being slightly lower than the original (smaller) counterparts. I ultimately chose to buy this for the improved processing power, allowing better play of Super Smash Brothers.

    Pros:
    - The enhanced 3D functionality through face tracking is outstanding! I never liked the 3D on my old 3DS, and often got headaches from trying to use it. These problems are completely erased for a far better experience with the New 3DS XL! I've found myself playing old games over again just to appreciate the 3D graphics that I couldn't enjoy before. This stable new 3D is what the original 3DS *should* have provided.
    - The New 3DS XL is of higher quality than previous DSi XL or 3DS XL consoles. The volume and 3D sliders are well made, and stay firmly where you drag them to. The speakers and overall build quality on my model is excellent!
    - The controls are easy to use and feel very comfortable in my hands. I haven't had much use for the added nub or ZL/ZR buttons yet, but they certainly don't get in the way.
    - The improved speed relative to the old 3DS models is notable, and downloads are much faster on this device.
    - The hinges for the screen click comfortably into one of two positions, and the upper screen experiences very minimal shaking when the 3DS is moved around while open.
    - The screens, body size, shape, and weight of the New 3DS are fantastic! Now that I have used this console, my old 3DS feels tiny and clunky in my hands by comparison. The New 3DS XL fits very comfortably in my hands, even through long periods of use.

    Cons:
    - The larger screen appears to have the same resolution as my smaller old 3DS does, making some of the graphics look slightly more pixelated than I would normally be used to. Overall the graphics are still very good, and this is only noticable in some specific situations.
    - The power button is located near the pen holster, and there have been multiple times when I've almost pressed it accidentally when blindly groping around for the pen.
    - Having the game cartridge on the bottom/front of the console makes me feel like I might accidentally eject it more often than if it were on the back of the 3DS like it has been previously. This is probably just me being paranoid though.

Overall I would highly recommend the New 3DS to anyone that can afford it. Please remember that this device DOES NOT come with it's own charging cable, this was a non-issue for me as I kept my old console as well. The concerns that I have with it are almost entirely minor ergonomic ones, are are greatly overshadowed by the upgraded 3D and processing power. I will not be purchasing a non-XL model again after experiencing the luxury of the larger screens and well spaced button layout that this has.
