I've been waiting for a kit like this to paint my Primal: The Awakening minis!

One of them is a giant canine with crystals sprouting from its back, and another is basically a humongous beetle. Perfect candidates for irredescent paints, on top of anything else I'm sure will come up as I paint through the collection.

I've attached a few of the minis I've already painted with just generic acrylic and metallic paint from similar off-brand paint providers. If you know what you're doing, and if you know how to execute the style you're going for, you don't need expensive name-brand paints to get your minis presentable. I'm particularly happy with how the hunters came out - I went for the stenciled action comic look of the player cards. So these iridescent paints are just another tool in my painting kit to achieve whatever look I want.

It's great that they come in good variety of shades of all the colors I'd expect to use, and come with black primer and additional paint thinner to boot. While I haven't painted a full-on mini just yet, I've tested a few colors out on several throwaway minis and surfaces and the iridescent quality where the base color morphs and shimmers into different "pitches" of itself is definitely present. Can't wait to dive in.

I got these because I figured they might be useful in painting 3D-printed terrain from my filament printer. The good news: you certainly get a lot for your thirty bucks or so. Individual color paints from someone like Turbodork cost between $5 and $7 a pop, whereas with this you get thirty paint bottles, plus primer and thinner.

I sprayed the primer and paints through my ancient and battered Badger 105 airbrush, which has an 0.5mm needle, at about ~20-25 PSI. I experienced no clogging and little tip dry, and as my airbrush use is pretty much limited to imprecise blasting of areas, I had no real difficulty with the paint, except that it took little of the thinner before it became overthinned and spiderwebbed.

The paint and primer are of course acrylic, but I would advise you wear a mask when spraying anyway (and you do that anyway, right? you're not dumb like me), as it can have a bit of an irritant effect on the ol' nasal passages if not. The primer is a gloss black, and I found it was tacky for a good long time, even after being blasted with a hairdryer or left overnight. Similarly, the paint felt quite tacky once laid on, again for some time, and I'm not sure that stopped until I sealed it in with Future Floor polish (which is now long out of production, but any gloss varnish will probably work at least as well). It will likely not surprise you that laying down a series of very thin coats is the best method, as it pretty much always is with metallics.

I also tested the paint on top of painted and sealed prints, to see if it reacted with them or still worked. There were no weird negative reactions, and it seemed to still work, albeit to a lesser extent. I mixed the paint with an electric paint stirrer, though it seemed to make little difference. The color shift effect is actually fairly subtle until you get them into the light, but the paint's quality (and possibly the quality of my skills with the airbrush) mean that the metallic finish is rather grainy-looking. The paint proved quite tenacious when it came time to clean it out from the airbrush cup, but I eventually got it out alternating between its proprietary thinner and acetone (probably not the best idea on my part).

For what I'm using these for, which is painting a lot of big pieces of terrain that will be the secondary focus of a miniatures game, I think these paints worked really well. If you're planning a more elaborate or more detailed project, you might want something else.
