Initially I thought "oh no, another more of the same bike light". I couldn't have been further from the truth. This is a very solid professional bike light set. As soon as you open the box up you appreciate this.
The headlight is in a metal housing. It has 3 brightness settings. The description states that the brightest setting is 4000 lumens. This is believable when you see this light in action. 1000 lumens is roughly equivalent to the brightness of a 60w incandescent bulb. So 4000 lumens would be equivalent to FOUR 60w incandescent bulbs (240W) ! With this bike headlight turned on its brightest setting in an otherwise totally dark room, it lights up the whole room pretty much like daylight. With this mounted on the front of your bike you'll have no issues lighting up the road in front of you! On a full charge the batteries will last about 3 hours if you use the brightest setting. There is also a medium and low brightness setting. Their light output isn't too shabby either. At the lowest brightness setting a full charge should last up to 10 hrs. If powered on with the high setting after a while the front of the housing gets noticeably warm. There is a cautionary "Hot" triangle marking on the top of the housing near the front (just above the lens).
The rear red light is just as impressive. It has different 'on' settings which vary from constantly on or different flash patterns or rotating.
Mounting is straightforward. The included instructions describe/show how to assemble the mounts... but I needed to go over them a second time with the parts in front of me to clearly understand how they all fit together. Once it was all together... it was an "that was easier than it looked" moment.
I also use the headlight as a fantastic flashlight. The high brightest setting is awesome.
The mount looks like it will also easily mount onto the handle bars of my snow thrower. That will make using my snow thrower after sunset next winter much safer.
My only criticism is the same I have with all bike lights... It would be nice if the customer had the option to buy additional mounting hardware - so that you could easily move the light from one bike to another (or snow thrower!).
At CA$69.99 at first glance feels a little pricy... but when you think of the large capacity battery and bright LEDs and the sturdy metal case it's built with you realize that this is a fair deal.
