I needed this for an old computer that was built in 2011, which didn't have a WiFi card built in, so I have been left to use an ethernet cable. Since I've plugged this USB WiFi adapter in, it's been doing an amazing job at keeping my computer connected to the internet, and the connection has been stable. It also allows me to finally be able to move the old desktop somewhere else since the ethernet cable was limiting its location. I really appreciate that there's no need for drivers to get it working; it took me a few minutes to have it recognized and connected to the internet and has been working perfectly with the maximum download and upload speeds I can get.

This is a reasonably decent (albeit typical) Wi-Fi 6/AX900 USB 2.0 adapter that utilizes AIC8800D80 chipset and it supports up to 1 spatial stream of MCS 11 utilizing 1024-QAM and 80 MHz/800 ns GI channels achieving a maximum speed of 600 Mbps. Together with 286 Mbps (1 stream of 1024-QAM using 40 MHz/800 ns GI channels), this adapter is advertised as being AX 900 (~ 886 = 600+286).

The installation for both hardware and software is straightforward as they're all supposed to be at this point in time. The driver can be downloaded from their official website (and it's recommended that you do that instead). This adapter is located about 3 meters (9 ft) away from the AP and the signal strength appears to be fine and so is the overall link quality as reported by the software.

However, the performance is at best comparable (slightly lower in fact) to 802.11ac under the best/ideal situations which is rather disappointing. Although Wi-Fi 6 (not Wi-Fi 6E) is primarily targeted at and best optimized for high density wireless environment where multiple clients and/or APs are fighting for or at least contentious with each other hoping to get sufficient amount of allotment for transmitting/receiving data, it shouldn't really be slower than Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) as is the case for me and that to me is a deal breaker.

Like all other Wi-Fi standards before it, AX900 is actually the combined bandwidth of both 5GHz and 2GHz and since a client can't use both simultaneously, 600 Mbps is the max you'd be able to get under the best of conditions, in theory. However, since this is a USB 2.0 adapter, the best (again) you'll be able to get is 480 Mbps since that's the theoretical max for USB 2.0.

Since I was able to get about 200 Mbps from one of the existing 802.11ac network with a link speed of 433MHz, I was hoping to get (at a minimum) around 277 Mbps (actual data transfer) from this assuming all other ideal conditions are met. Well, I was wrong and the max I could ever get (pending future tweaks) out of this is around 194 Mbps (was only around 157 Mbps at first).

I was a bit disappointed but knowing the dynamic nature of these, it didn't bother me that much at first because I expect it to get better after a few tweaks; unfortunately, that's not the case here and the overall performance remains poor and much lower than expected. All things being equal, AX should be more efficient than AC but it's simply not what I've seen with this USB 2.0 adapter. Btw, this really should be USB 3.0 instead to eliminate any bottleneck at the USB level but I guess someone KNEW that USB 3.0 isn't required because it could never go that high.

In either case, 194 Mbps is around 24.25 MB/s and it's more than sufficient for STREAMING med/high quality 4K videos if that's your PRIMARY USE CASE (unfortunately, it is not mine). For reference, 4K ultra HD (4K) videos from NF requires 15 Mbps (minimum) but preferably around 25 Mbps. 40 Mbps should be more than adequate under most circumstances for 4K videos encoded with x264 which this adapter is more than capable of.

★ I should also mention that high-gain antennae such as this do NOT necessarily provide better performance unless you require exactly what it offers; distance. Without going to unnecessary details, the way these high-gain antennae works to get longer distance coverage is to change the shape of the coverage of the signals from an ordinary donut shape (i.e. for dipole/horizontally polarized antennae) to one that's flatten.

When you flatten a donut, its height decreases but its edges/sides extend to accommodate for the same amount of the volume (i.e. power). As such, the signals can reach objects further away that's parallel to the horizontal axis; however, objects directly above or below wouldn't get much coverage at all since the donut is now flatter. In short, high gain antennae change shape of signal coverage in order to focus signal to one 2D plane while sacrificing the vertical plane and this works the best for distance coverage at the same floor rather than from basement to the 2nd floor.

Note that Win10/11 doesn't have the drivers built-in and although the latest drivers can be downloaded and/or the manufacturer of your laptop/desktop. I've also found relevant driver for my Dell laptop as well.

Note that you should avoid (if possible) using drivers provided by any UFD and it's always the best to get it from AIC (Advanced Industrial Computer, or whoever the chipset maker is) instead since malicious UFD can compromise your computer without you ever knowing anything about it until it's too late and they are often (or at least can be) completely undetectable no matter what you have unless of course you work in the field (IS) and know exactly what to look for.

≡ Value
All things considered, this is a reasonably decent Wi-Fi 6/AX900 USB 2.0 adapter that's a decent upgrade for the old but not obsolete laptop/desktop if it doesn't already have 802.11ac connectivity. This AX900 USB 2.0 adapter most likely won't speed up your existing single stream 802.11ac in any meaningful way unless distance/coverage is a concern for you. Also keep in mind that this only supports 80MHz channels and you will wanna get something that supports 160MHz channels if at all possible just to be a bit future-proof to get the most out of it. This is somewhat reasonably priced at $23 for what it provides and its overall build quality, features, usability, and performance. Your mileage might vary.

This USB Wifi adapter is an inexpensive way to add in some potentially longer range wireless to a PC.

Pros:
Can get a better connection at longer range vs built in Wifi
Inexpensive
Mostly simple to set up on Windows

Cons:
The adapter is not detected automatically by either Windows or Linux
No official Linux support or driver available. Advanced users might be able to compile their own.
Limited effective bandwidth to about 300Mbps, partially due to using USB 2.0

This adapter uses an AIC 8800D80 chip and needs a driver installed before using on Windows. There is one included on the dongle but I would recommend downloading it from the Brostrend website in case there is a more up to date version. Its a quick install and then its ready to connect, but it is not plug-and-play. Initially I tried to get it connected on Linux Mint, however there is no driver available for Linux. With the proper know-how one could likely be compiled with sources from github as this adapter seems to be a clone of other brands that do have Linux support, but is it worth the time?

After connecting on Win 11 I ran a series of bandwidth tests at increasingly longer ranges or obstacles. My laptop's built in Wifi is a Killer AX1650x which has very good range as it is. Moving out to a garden shed I could get 25-50% better speeds at times over both 2.4 and 5 Ghz, going from 22 to 44 Mbps at the biggest speed difference. However most of the time the difference was more subtle, such as going from 44 to 57, or from 9.5 to 12 depending on the location or band used. Wifi is a difficult thing to test with results changing at any moment, and at a couple tests the onboard was the same or even faster than the "long range" adapter.

At extreme long ranges at the end of reception of a good 200 feet or so the adapter did have an easier time connecting to the router. So all in all, yes the range on this seems to be better than my already fairly good built in wifi, but only slightly.

What this adapter is not good for however is high speed usage. Yes it is advertised as ax900 however that is a combination of the ratings of the different bands, and their own rating of 600Mbps for 5Ghz is also a bit misleading. I ran iperf3 tests to a hard wired PC and could at best hit 300Mbps one way, also the dongle is advertised as USB 2.0 which at best is rated for only 480Mbps. By comparison my laptop's built in wifi had no problem hitting 700 when running bandwidth tests to the same hardwired PC. So while it can have a range advantage, the max throughput is not exactly great. This is fine for most simple internet usage however, I just include the numbers for the sake of The Geeks.

I had been using a nano-size USB WiFi adapter rated at 433/150 compared to the 600/286 rating of this device. This device is dramatically faster (much more than twice the speed of the nano), presumably due to the antenna effectiveness. The relatively big antenna may not provide much benefit where WiFi signal strength is high, but it definitely helps in locations with low-moderate WiFi signal strength. The nano size unit wasn't any faster at 5 GHz versus 2.4 GHz, this unit did very well at 2.4 GHz and significantly better at 5 GHz. Strongly recommended for marginal signal strength locations.

The w-ifi dongle in one of our computers was a little long in the tooth, lacking 5GHz connectivity, and having a poor, unreliable connection. So I thought I’d give this one a try – it couldn’t be any worse than the existing one!

It was easy to set up. Once it was plugged into the USB port, it guided me through a quick driver installation, and then it just worked! This was on a Windows 10 PC; I did not test it on any other operating systems.

The signal strength is noticeably better that the old dongle, and the computer is now showing a strong signal, and I've experienced reliable, fast speeds on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. No annoying dropouts, not even when the entire household is streaming content from various services.

I like the design of the antenna too. It's so much more compact than the old one. And even when plugged into the rear of the computer, snug in the corner of the room, about as far from the router as can be, the signal is nigh on perfect on the 2.4GHz band, which is fast enough for our use.

Overall, if you're looking for a simple, effective way to improve your WiFi connection, this adapter is a great choice that delivers on its promises.

Ich bewerte den "BrosTrend High Gain WLAN Stick für PC, AX900 WiFi 6 USB WLAN Adapter PC mit 6dBi Antenne hoher Verstärkung, Dualband 600Mbit/s 5GHz + 286Mbit/s 2.4GHz, USB WiFi Adapter Kompatibel mit Windows 11/10/7" im Rahmen des �鶹��-Vine Programms.

Der Anschluß ist denkbar einfach - den USB - Stick in den USB 3.0 Port des Computers stecken ..... und jetzt nicht enttäuscht sein. Es erfolgt kein Windows Plug & Play, es öffnet sich ein Fenster, das zur Installation der neuesten Version des Treibers via Internet auffordert. Da klappt dann ( bei mir mit WIN 10 Home + aktivierter Kaspersky Internet Suite, sehr hohe Schutzeinstellungen) problemlos. Der Treiber wird schnell installiert und konfiguriert. Mit dem Netzwerk verbinden und WLAN - Passwort eingeben - Verbindung erfolgt !
Wenn man dem beiliegenden Installation - Guide folgt, der ist verwirrend: Es ist von der LED - Anzeige die Rede, die langsam blinkt, wenn alles erfolgreich installiert und verbunden ist ...... ich habe die LED - Anzeige gesucht und gesucht und gesucht ....und lange nicht gefunden. Ich hatte mir gedacht, wenn von einem langsamen Blinken die Rede ist, müßte man dies sofort sehen. Falsch gedacht. Am Schaft des USB - Sticks ist ein winziges blaues Licht (welches gern übersehen wird, auch beim 4. oder 5. Hinsehen, insbesondere in hellen Räumen), welches bei äußerst genauem Hinsehen erkannt werden kann. Das hat bei mir langsam geblinkt - also alles ok.

Ergebnis: Alles klappt, Verbindung ist ok, Signalstärke hat jetzt Maximalausschlag. Eine deutliche Verbesserung gegenüber der Situation vor der Installation des BrosTrend High Gain WLAN Sticks. Ich bin sehr zufrieden.

Pedí este adaptador para darle una segunda vida a un PC de sobremesa que tenía sin WiFi. No quería meterme a abrirlo ni complicarme con tarjetas internas, así que esta opción por USB me pareció lo más cómodo. Y la verdad, ha funcionado mejor de lo que esperaba.

Se instala solo, sin descargar nada, simplemente lo enchufas y ya está. En mi caso, lo usé con Windows y en menos de un minuto ya tenía conexión. La señal mejora mucho con la antena que lleva, sobre todo si el router está lejos. No es el más pequeño del mundo, pero tampoco molesta. Va rápido, no se calienta y no me ha dado cortes ni fallos raros.

Para lo que cuesta, me parece una compra acertada. No es un producto de diseño bonito, ni falta que le hace. Hace su trabajo, y lo hace bien. Si necesitas mejorar la conexión WiFi sin complicarte la vida, este adaptador cumple de sobra.

Mon pc portacle a 10 ans, et la carte wifi était devenue très capricieuse. j'avais acheté une petite clé wi fi pour pallier à ca, mais ce n'était pas terrible non plus. du coup j'étais revenu à internet au moyen du câble. pas terrible pour un pc portable ;).
Me voici donc avec cette clé wifi et sa drôle d'antenne. wifi 6 ça ne peut etre que mieux que l'ancienne.
Bref, installation très facile par le port usb. le setup se lance automatiquement.
Par contre, je suis allée dans les paramètres de mon pc (voir photo) à la section wifi pour verifier qu'internet se connectait bien via ma nouvelle clé. sinon il s mettait sur la carte wifi originale (que du coup j'ai désactivée)
Et tout fonctionne au top.
bonne installation que je ne regrette pas.

This Wi-Fi dongle is easy to set up and offers a good signal on both 5 GHz and 2.4GHz modes. It was obtained to replace my PC's onboard Wi-Fi that was becoming intermittent and unreliable, - this is stable and reliable.

The only negative, in my opinion, is that the unit is a bit 'chunky', hence the one-star deduction.
