2/6 died
If you want to use these for HomeKit they are good switches but Matter can be a bit finicky. Installation is easy but for older homes that have smaller boxes it can be a challenge as the switches are long and fat. These have touch on and off so NO tactile feel (clicking feeling), maybe I am old school but i like that feedback. NOTE: I am slowly switching the rest of my Eve switches to Lutron. I currently have 12 and they work flawlessly. Pros: on 3 way switches they work well and do not need to wire in a jumper like Lutron requires you to. Cons: Matter can be flaky (needs to be rebooted) large switch no tactile feel 2/6 have died on me so 33 % failure rate isn't the greatest

As soon as I heard that this switch supported Thread and that it could be used in 3-way configurations (without having to replace both switches), I bought this switch. I first tried replacing the switch at the load end connected to the light. The switch worked fine locally as a dumb switch, but in the app I had to toggle the switch multiple times before it would change state. Similarly, when I replaced the switch at the other end of he 3-way circuit, I had the exact same behaviour. If the light was off and the status was also off in the app, when I pressed the toggle in HomeKit, the light turned on. When I toggled the switch OFF in the app, the light stayed on but the switch in the app turned to OFF. When I preseds the toggle in the app to ON, the lights turned OFF but the status in the Home app was ON.

I contacted Eve Support, but they didn't provide any useful information or troubleshooting tips and weren't able to resolve the issue. They simply gave me a link to the online manual. Very disappointed. I'll be returning this switch.

These light switches are great in single pole setup. Can be finicky in 3 way. I have used Leviton/Eve and Lutron Caseta Diva switches, and Lutron is far more solid and easier to use.
I also have an Eve camera in my driveway, and its connection can be spotty at best.

Great light switch. Hook up is a breeze as long as you have the neutral wire. Works flawlessly and easy to hook up to your wifi HomeKit. I had bought one a while back and like the security of being with the HomeKit App, easy hook up and operation. Had to order a cple more. Would of given 5 stars but the price i find is a little on the top end but again you get what you pay for. Love the Eve Products!

2.0 out of 5 stars My Switch has a bug/problem and it’s very annoying

I like and really appreciate Eve and their products as they have taken the lead on Matter + Thread support. It’s so nice to be moving a myriad of connected devices to Thread (the network that the devices use to communicate) which is automatically created and provided by several AppleTVs and Homepod minis around my home (no configuration or anything required, it just works). Eve outlets, plugs, weather and motion have started to replace older options and have simplified much. Battery life with Thread is excellent, and the network management with Thread seems to have lessened congestion for my WiFi network. Thread also handles security and access, almost like a VLAN, so that’s awesome for the rest of my network and addresses a real concern with IoT.

Of course, leveraging Matter (which is the “language” that controls the devices digitally) allows these devices to be compatible with with multiple services - for me both Apple Home (primarily for Siri voice control) and Home Assistant (where I find it much easier to build complex automation and such).

And, it all works even if the internet is down. Truly local control! Yay!

The promise of Matter and Thread … is actually happening. Thanks Eve.

I’ve been wanting to slowly transition away from my several-years-old TP-Link/Kasa switches and dimmers (which use WiFi and are designed to depend on a cloud connection to Kasa). I was excited for Eve to solve this as there are very limited Matter+Thread switch options. (I have an Inovelli White Series Smart Dimmer on order but it’s backordered, and expensive).

Unfortunately, unlike other Eve products I have had an unresolved and annoying problem with this product.

First, the switch is simple to install and setup is a breeze. Adding via Apple Home (Matter and Thread) was frictionless. I was then easily able to add to Home Assistant as well using pairing mode that can be turned on in Apple Home’s view of the accessory. Apple Home automatically manages firmware updates too! Easy.

The switch is capacitive (?), meaning you tap it to turn it on/off - it does not physically move. I think I’d prefer one that physically clicks, but when this works it’s just fine. There is a green LED on the switch which indicates when it is on or off (it can be disabled and/or dimmed) since there is no physical indication of its state.

The problem is the switch gets stuck “on”. Tapping it becomes completely unresponsive. Toggling it on/off in Apple Home or Home Assistant curiously registers as turning it off, but the switch itself doesn’t respond. The switch has to be manually rebooted (sometimes at the fuse box, really annoying) to fix. And then it happens again. Working with Eve support has not been great - they do respond, which is nice, but it takes *forever*. And because this issue seems complicated I’ve been living with it and this problem for quite some time.

If this problem were to be resolved everything else is 5-star. But, because it can get locked up with the lights on it’s hard to recommend. There is a reddit post where several others describe the same thing, but not much evidence this is widespread so your mileage may vary. I think my hardware might have an issue, I just wish Eve would replace so I can confirm this and update my review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid privacy focused connected switch that would be better with some small improvements
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2025

I've got a couple of these around my house along with a few Eve outlets. Overall, I have a very robust network for Matter over Thread devices - which is terrific as it's a solid way to create a cross-platform smart home without needing a patchwork of cloud services. Eve continues to be a leader in Matter over Thread devices, but you pay a bit of a premium for that.

The devices work well. They quickly turn the lights on and off and allow me to manage my outdoor lights from wherever I am. Installation was relatively easy and all the parts are included in the box - including a number of wire nuts for connecting everything. However, be aware that there are no screw terminals on the device, this means that even if you didn't have wire nuts in your switch box before, you're going to need room in the box for wire nuts now. Not a huge deal, but you'll want a pair of pliers to straighten out incoming leads and snip off a little bit of excess so you can use the wire nuts without having uninsulated wire showing.

Adoption was dead simple to bring them into Apple Home - just scan that QR code from the manual and the devices appeared in both the Apple Home and the Eve Home apps. If you don't have the Eve Home app, you don't need it for these, but it will provide a few extra controls for the lights on the switches. You'll want to do this as the green lights on the switches are otherwise bright enough to provide small amounts of illumination to the room they're in.

A point that is neither good nor bad, but to be aware of, is that these are not rocker switches like most other smart switches. It's not a case of hit the top to turn on and bottom to turn off. They're completely flat and touching anyplace on the switch toggles the state. If they're next to another switch, you'll be surprised at how often you accidentally trigger the switches.

Another point to be aware of is that these are much bigger than some of the other smart home switches that I have. If you're not living a recently built house with large plastic switch boxes, things will get very cramped very quickly. I really had to work to get everything into my boxes - including some creative wiring and removing of wires. The ground wire on the top of the boxes is in a particularly annoying spot for some older boxes because it sticks above the top of the switch and gets easily pinched. Luckily, if you've got metal boxes, you can just rip the grounding wire off.

Finally, there are two spots where things can definitely be improved. First, while the QR code for the device is printed on the manual and also on the inside of the face plate, if you're not using the face plate, you still stand a chance to lose it. It would be great if the QR code for device adoption were also printed on the device in case you ever need to move it. In my case, I just write the numeric code in permanent marker on the part of outlet that is in the box. The second spot, which is probably the biggest spot for why I took a star off is that these switches have really cheap screws packaged with them. The screws both strip easily and also, disturbingly, I ended up snapping the heads off two of the screws used to put the switches into the box. Yes, part of that was probably because I have very tight switch boxes, but it's disappointing when you buy a premium product and discover that they decided to save a couple of cents at most by using cheap screws.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good

I got these to replace some cheaper no-name-brand Thread switches that failed pretty rapidly. I'm only on day one of these so if something goes awry later, I'll come back to update but after my past experiences with the Eve plugs, I'm feeling a bit more confident. That being said, these are not perfect. They are HUGE compared to any of my previous switches and I had a heck of a time fitting two of them side by side in a box with all the wire bundles and nuts to hold everything together. I'm a little concerned about long term performance since there's not much in the way of airflow for any heat to be dispersed, but only time will tell. I really wish these modern switches and outlets would stop with the pigtails and offer screw terminals. It would make for a much more manageable installation. I'm also not a huge fan of the capacitive touch and prefer a tactile mechanical switch feel to give me feedback. This is a personal gripe and not necessarily indicative of a problem with the product. The touch response is fast, and I haven't had it lock up yet like my old switches.
Adding to HomeKit using Thread was super easy and worked on the first try, much quicker than some other products I have experienced. I do really wish the QR code was actually on the switch itself and not a mounting plate that comes off (I had to set these aside to use a different double switch plate cover). It becomes very easy to mix up the codes when working with multiple switches at once.
I like that these are mains connected full Thread devices so they will (theoretically) help to extend connectivity to some Thread bulbs that I have on my front porch.
If these work out long-term, I have some 3-way switches that I would love to replace with these, but previous reviews and the horrible instructions have me hesitant to try for that application, especially with how expensive these are.

Edit to add: There’s no way to change this switch to display as anything other than a light in HomeKit. Previous switches I have configured let me select light, fan, or outlet. I’m using one for a fan so it’s irritating to have it turn on with the other lights in that room when using voice commands even though I have it named “fan”. I think this is due to the way Eve chose to implement Matter on the device, but it’s hard to verify what features to expect because everything is on different versions of Matter.

Update: After a couple weeks, I have had ZERO issues with these switches and actually added a third one to replace another Thread switch from a no-name brand that failed and have also implemented a few of the Eve hardwired outlets. Thread network seems to be performing much better with these in place since they're expanding how many full Thread devices I have in my home. I would give these five stars if they fit in the switch box better and could be customized in HomeKit as either a fan/light/switch, but those are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things.
