Build quality seems good on this unit. Nice to see they put a boost button on the smart cable in case your battery voltage is too low and the device doesn't recognize you connected the unit.
Also nice they use the common EC5 battery connector so you can use replacement battery leads that are available online at 鶹, Temu.
I did testing on the following 3 engines (with their start batteries removed).
First tests were done at about +14C.
- 3.0L ford gas engine - spun engine over well and started tight up.
- 6.2L GMC gas engine - spun over slower but did start.
- 2.4L diesel engine - would not even begin to turn over.
Second test was done at -20C (put jump starter in freezer overnight)
- 3.0L ford gas engine - starter would engage but would not turn over. Tried every 10 sec and on third try it started.
- 6.2L GMC gas engine - starter would engage but would not turn over. Too big of engine when this cold.
- 2.4L diesel engine - would not even begin to turn over,
Note that you can use these inexpensive jump starters in cold weather but they will have much reduced capacity. It does help to leave them connected for a couple of minutes to help charge your battery before starting. As current is drawn out of the jump starter, the battery will warm up and improve it's current output. Question is, will the jumper starter be depleted before it gets warm. My experiments show it will work at cold temperatures using it correctly on the small 4 and 6 cylinder engines.
Because of the poor cold weather performance of all these lithium jumper starters, I would reserve this one for ATV's, small boat engines etc. Go for one of the heated ones from Gooloo or Lokithor is you need them is the really cold climates. Time will tell if it's built to last.
