Easy install, doesn’t matter what mother board you are rocking. Amazing results, prints look 10x better. Went from stringy messy first layer to one perfect print. Comes with extra cords but just using the old extruder connection works fine. I upgraded the plastic arm to a metal one, that’s the most likely failure point. BL/CR touch is still mountable, you will likely need the other bracket from your BLtouch kit.

All in all took 30-45 minutes to install. If you built your printer or know how legos work, you’ll be fine. No firmware nonsense needed. Just screw it in, plug it in, and power back on. Printed with PETG first run, came out fabulous. I have an ender 5 classic that I’m upgrading, I believe the cords are long enough for it to work. Such a cheap easy direct drive upgrade!!!

Purchased the direct drive kit to improve printing with tougher materials (PETG, TPU, etc). Works great, rarely jams up now. Installation was a bit labour intensive as it required re-routing all the cables to the motherboard and removal of the original mechanism.

In addition the included bracket doesn't support all-metal extruders as it doesn't have a gap where the tension adjustment screw is. I was unable to find a printable bracket that properly fit the silver extruder, but I was able to find one for the red which I was able to use as a starting point and adjust to fit the silver one.

Overall print quality has improved, though I've traded in jams and flow issues for a little bit of ghosting, hoping a transition to klipper firmware with input shaper might help reduce it.

Overall happy with my purchase.

Got this so i could print TPU, and my old extruder motor was hurting anyways and having a hard time feeding filament through my bowden. I recommend this. It provided an exceptional upgrade for my Ender 3, and improved print quality. I had several filaments that would constantly jam or cause the stock extruder to skip, but with this new one I've had no more problems and it just works.

I only gave it 4 stars, because I don't like the fact that the lever on the extruder idler is plastic, but at least it has a brass insert to keep it from wearing.

I knew that the lever was plastic before I purchased, as I'm hoping that my Creality aluminum extruder kit which I had on the old bowden tube setup will fit if I need to replace it later.

Unlike another reviewer who reported that it didn't come with a nozzle, mine came with a 0.4mm brass nozzle.

In the meantime, I've switched to trying out OrcaSlicer with it and I ran through its builtin calibrations for Flow rate, Temperature & Retraction. After doing those calibrations, I ran the Orca Tolerance Test and my old Ender3 V1 passes the 0.1mm clearance test with flying colours.

2024-05-19 update: I had to replace the plastic extruder lever, because every time I'd do a filament change in Orcaslicer with the M600 gcode, it would jam the softened filament against between the idler wheel and the exit point of the extruder lever. After replacing it with an aluminum lever from my previous extruder upgrade, it works just fine.

I've included a couple of photos of the plastic extruder lever showing how the filament jams up against it during the filament unload process (via M600); plus a photo of my aluminum lever which thankfully works properly. Note: I was only able to install the aluminum lever, as the aluminum extruder's base plate has a threaded ptfe tube coupler and the plastic extruder plate doesn't have anything but a smooth hole for the ptfe tube to insert into.
