Smart Chip & Manual Release Key

  • The “auto-close” function ultimately secures the property after you leave.
  • Stops in case of obstruction during gate opening, and reverses in case of obstruction during gate closing. Adjust the stall force to get your desired open / close obstruction sensitivity. Higher stall force level, lower obstruction sensitivity.
  • Soft start and soft stop ensure a long-lasting performance.
  • The above modules can be adjusted on the smart control panel directly.
  • Equipped with manual release key in case of power outage or when you lose your remote.

Gate Capability

  • AT12131 gate opener works well for the heavy duty single swing gate up to a maximum of 5.5m in length (correspondingly 110kg in weight).
  • Suitable for the swing gate up to 400kg in weight (correspondingly 1.2m in length).
  • Kindly note that the max. gate length capability is inversely proportional to the gate weight.

    I bought this gate opener about 18 months ago and I am very happy with the gate as well as the customer service. We live on a farm and it's really nice to not have to get out of the truck in the pouring rain, or in a foot of snow, to go and open that gate. Then drive forward, get out and close the gate.

    The gate was pretty easy to set up. I did have one question about the setup so I contacted customer service and they walked me right through it. After 18 months of using it, I noticed that the gate wasn't always closing all the way. I contacted customer service again and they sent detailed instructions about how to trouble shoot the problem. It turns out that it wasn't the opener that was the problem, it was the gate was getting rusty and I just needed to turn up the force that the opener used to close the gate. I just turned a knob on the control box up a little bit and it now works like a charm.

    I also just hooked up a string of car LED lights on the gate. (The type that light up the underside of your car while you drive.) Those lights run on 12V and are waterproof. There is even a spot on the gate controller to plug in a light so that it turns on while the gate is opening or closing. (Presumably for a safety light to give a visual clue that it is opening.) I used the long strip of them on my gate so that I can see in the dark that the gate is opening and closing from a distance. The remote control has a good range. I usually activate the gate when I am 200+ meters away (600+ feet) so that by the time I get to the gate it has just finished opening and I just drive through.

    I am very happy with the gate opener.

    The product seems strong enough for gate operation. Brackets and components fit well and instructions for install were fairly straight forward. I installed the control modules into a waterproof electrical box, along with the 18 amp/hr batteries. My gate is 200 ft from the house, so I am using solar power only. I added my own strobe light so I could tell the gate was activated. I also installed the external RF antenna for the extra range. It has been installed for a few weeks will no issues. I din't mind paying extra for some of available add ons, but I feel that the Homelink should have been included with the package. Seems like you are being nickel and dimed for some functionality that should have been included. Otherwise I would have gave it 5 stars.

    Decided on Topens for my driveway gate based on reviews of the product and my own research. I looked at other brands and ended up gravitating toward Topens, glad I did. Online videos and printed instructions allow the DIY folks to install this opener in a matter of a few hours. There are variables but for the most part, install is straightforward. I've included photos that may help you with the planning of your new gate opener.

    In my case I fabricated a single 13 foot swing gate that comes in at a hefty 400lbs. This falls within the Topens specifications. I was not concerned due to heavy duty, greased ball bearing hinges installed making movement easy. I imagine the concern would be around the initial force necessary to start a heavy gate moving. Either way, the swing operation of the gate is smooth and quiet. We love it. We have yet to install the exit sensor and the wireless keypad, they are still in my garage. I suspect this will also go smoothly based on my experience with Topens thus far.

    Adjusting settings such as auto close timing, soft close and force are extremely easy and intuitive. Adjusting the all important "travel range" is also simple. Takes 10 minutes to create perfect open/close stop points. When installing the actuator it is a MUST that you clamp the actuator to the hinge post and to the gate. Purpose here is to do a test swing of the gate to ensure that the motor housing and drive rod do not bind. If they do during the test swing, readjust and try again. I cannot tell you how critical this step is. Measure 4-5 times, drill holes once! Test the full open and close range of the gate prior to drilling. There, I said it three times. Programming the included remote controls takes about 30 seconds and they have great range.

    When you purchase this Topens Swing Gate Opener, pull out the wallet and add two twelve volt batteries so when the power goes out you can still open the gate. You can pickup (2) 12V batteries on 鶹 for about $49. Follow the battery spec from Topens.

    As you see in the photos, I installed a waterproof electronics enclosure to protect everything from moisture and UV rays. It makes it look professional and is very functional. 鶹 sells the boxes, mine was about $150. It has a code locking making it tamper resistant. Since the photo was taken I ran the lock cord and the actuator cord inside flexible conduit and ran it out of site, underground.

    In my case I also installed the Topens Gate Lock, see photo. Gives a very secure lock point on the non-hinge post. This makes the install more secure and stronger, highly advised.

    In the near future I will be installing the optional obstruction sensor and remote control for inside the house. I do not have the need for an exterior light indicator that flashes externally during gate operation.

    As with any project there are oftentimes issues, this is where Topens shines and did an amazing job with their customer support. You do not see support like this these days. I was anticipaing a hassle but received the best. The issue I encountered was where the control board was providing a continuous 24V's to the gate lock thus keeping it open/unlatched 24x7. It was an obvious issue. I engaged tech support at Topens and received a response via email a few hours later, Thanksgiving Eve. I was even working with them on Thanksgiving!! I was shocked, who does that these days? I was expecting 2-3 days to get a response. After a quick email exchange we came to the conclusion that the control board had an issue. I was shipped a new one which I received in two days. It took 10 minutes to install the new board and now everything works flawlessly, I'm giddy.

    I cannot personally speak to the difference between Topens and other manufactures when it comes to product but I can certainly attest to the extremely high level of customer support at Topens. To me this is critical and I want people to be aware. To engage with a human within a few hours, troubleshoot, resolve and ship quickly is awesome. I cannot say enough good things about this company.

    I had an Elite Miracle 1 gate operator . It was installed in 2003 and it worked well but seemed to start having issues a few years back and in Oct 2024, it quit.. So I began shopping around for another gate operator and TOpens had great reviews on the AT12131 operator. So I purchased the AT12131 because it was rated as heavy duty and appeared similar to The Mighty Mule operators that I was already familiar with. The value of this operator is outstanding for the price I paid for it thru 鶹. installation is really easy if you follow the installation instructions . I am still working on my install as I got delayed in the process due to personal reasons and was away 11 days from my initial start date. I will say if you can find a friend to help with the install it really helps.
    I have issues with the open and close range.. but it’s not any issue with the operator but issues that existed from the install of the Post the gate hangs from . I will get it resolved as I know what I have to do to correct my issue…
    I will have to have an extra set of hands as the gate is heavy in itself and I am not able to make adjustments for leveling the gate by myself .

    It does work well. I just have some tweaks to do to the gate post and gate hinges …then all should be complete…it operates so smooth and it’s quiet as a mouse!!!!

    I bought this because the GTO MM550 that we had for four years fried another circuit board and the unit was giving off a code and the tech couldn’t explain why. The code was for a dual gate model while this unit was a single gate. He said that it’s not even programmed to give that code, it must be a defect? I said if it’s a defect, why not send me a new board? He said they cannot because it’s out of warranty. They suggested replacing the PCB or, if that didn’t work, replacing the whole unit. My two problems with this are swapping out parts to swap out parts and the tech should be able to say with certainty why it’s giving the code. So I started ding research on the replacement unit and discovered that they no longer make my unit and the new one has horrible reviews. Frustrated with GTO, I started looking at other units. I kept coming back to Topens. Reviews mentioned the reliability, value for the money and great service. I installed the opener four months ago, So far so good…

    It showed up on time and was packaged well. Everything was there in the box that they were supposed to ship. It appeared to be well made and nothing stood out as a possible problem.

    Installation was no different than expected. The instructions were clear and complete. Wiring diagrams were included and easy to follow. My previous opener brackets were welded and my gate is 600 feet away from 220v power source so I could not bring my welding machine down there. Because they mount differently I had to relocate the brackets. I wound up cutting them off and bolting them on in the right position. The hardware to do this surprisingly was in the Topens box. I also wound up drilling a hole in the back of the control box and feeding the antenna wire out to increased on reception for the remote.

    Programming was easy enough. The gate motor is installed upside down to provide access to the limit switches. Once they are set, just pull two pins and flip it over and you’re done.

    It’s been in for three months and we haven’t had any issues. Here is what I think is food, bad or different than other the GTO opener.

    It got good reviews. There are a ton of videos on YouTube about installation. It was easy to install and program. It was far less expensive and individual electrical components are available so you won’t have to re-buy the whole thing if something goes out. It doesn’t have the audible beep when opening like my last opener. Not sure if it’s available. Not good, not bad for me, it’s just not on there. The remote is smaller and doesn’t have a clip to put on a visor. The remote works far better than the GTO gates. Easily 500 feet compared to about 50 feet. Quite impressive actually. It’s quiet. It’s a little slower. It has the auto close function. It works. We’ll see how it holds up over the years.
